Just don't think so much, almost everyone else doesn't do so too

1: I believe the 950 skin a one piece skin so what are you going to do...cut/toss half of it
2: Even in the case the eReader still swings out exposing the back (at least the Sony ones do)
3: I doubt it will stay in the case its entire life
4: It looks cool even if you arn't constantly staring at it

1-4 make sense but 5 is just plain worrying...

I wouldn't trade my 950 for the world, these eReaders are absolutely the best on the market in every way.....except for the shiny aluminum body and all the chrome, what the heck was Sony thinking?? Once I get it black it'll be PERFECT.
Bill_D,

Have you received your 'Black Woodgrain' PRS-950 decalgirl skin yet? Would you mind posting pictures when you do? I am considering ordering that skin, as I would like to replicate the NON-SHINY look of the PRS-650 as closely as possible. I love many things about the Daily Edition but find the glare when using a clip-on light especially annoying.

(Of course the skin won't help with the glare from the chrome controls and trim, but perhaps there is a solution for that, too. Gaffer's tape, if I want to be ridiculously obsessive about the issue, maybe? Then I may address the problem of the lightweight smaller font sizes, which are part of reason I am using a book light more frequently than with the Kindle3, in purposely dim night-time lighting.)

Thanks in advance if you decide to respond. Thanks also to those who have already posted pics. I appreciate getting a better idea of how the skins look IRL, especially since the images on the vendor's website don't really show the areas left exposed by the skins.

Bill, I assumed the 950 skin is like the Nook with two sheets...one for the front and one for the back. I ordered one based on this assumption.

It is hard to imagine how a one piece skin can be easily (read properly) installed.

I just looked back at the pictures and it looks as though you are correct about it being a one piece skin. Egads!

Hi redbees,

I'll be happy to post some pic's if it ever shows up. My order status still reads 'in production' on the website (ordered last week)....kinda dragging thier feet .

An alternitive to the decal

Anybody seen THIS COVER yet?

Looks like a great idea, unfortunately it doesn't appear that the 950 will fit in a Sony case after it has this cover on it though... But it looks like it'll cover the aluminum face, and all the nasty chrome trim, leaving only the chrome buttons to contend with.

The Dark Burlwood cover in matte finish is very nice and lifelike, in case somebody out there is considering it.

I'm considering one of the following, in order of interest:
Flying Tree, Song of the Sky, Wood grain black, or Match Head.

Got my DecalGirl skin today! I am very pleased with it. Nice to have a dark color around the screen again. I so wish they had offered the 950 in black... I am glad that I spent the extra money on the matte finish. Like all the other photos that people have posted, there is a slight gap around the edge of the screen in the decal. I wish the fit had been tighter. I tried to minimize the amount of silver showing so it's not distracting. If only Sony had not used that bright chrome finish on the buttons and edge! The other reason I purchased a skin is that it makes the ereader warmer to hold (especially now that it's winter).

Some tips on application: I watched the Nook video that petercreasey posted (thank you!). I peeled away the screen and serial number labels first. I started with the front around the buttons to get that placement correct and then worked my way around the edges to the top. Once the front was in place, it was easy to wrap around to the back.

I have purchased skins from other companies before. This was my first order from DecalGirl. You have the option of using Amazon or Google checkout for payment. I got an email when it shipped giving tips on how to clean your ereader and apply the skin. I ordered USPS Priority. It took about one week from purchase to arrival in my mailbox. I ordered one of the 950 designs and not a custom one. It came in a large, stiff cardboard envelope. The packaging was very professional. There was a coupon code inside for the matching wallpaper. I would definitely purchase from DecalGirl again for other products.

B, You're welcome!

I agree the Nook video was helpful. And it sounds like you and I installed the matte decal in similar fashion. Definitely should do the front first!

Like you, I am pleased with the result.

Me too!!!! I just came in from sitting outside in the sun. I was reading using my 350 which is also silver with chrome buttons. The sun shining on it was so intense that I had considerable eyestrain. Thirty minutes later my eyes are still watering a bit.

It makes me wonder if the Sony engineers who designed the readers actually use them? The readers are well designed electronically, but not aesthetically. The buttons are in the worst positions for portrait reading and using highly reflective silver paint and chromed trim was totally stupid. They do have sunshine in Japan, right?

Just be glad they don't have annoying blue LED lights that light up half the block.
