Hello all,

I ordered my Kindle 3 (wifi) from Canada on December 29 and was given a shipping estimate of January 20-21. (Delivery is another matter entirely and depends on the selected shipping option.) So I'm guessing the three week promise is standard for all us furriners.

One of my coworkers is the proud owner of an identical Kindle. She ordered hers before Christmas and it was shipped earlier than estimated, so I'm hoping my situation will be the same *crossed fingers*.

If any fellow Canadians are reading this - I'd appreciate any pointers you can give on selecting a shipping methods. We have a choice of three: Standard International Shipping (averages 8-16 days), Expedited International Shipping (averages 6-10 business days), and Priority International Courier (averages 1-3 days). I asked my coworker which she'd chosen; she couldn't remember but thought it was the cheapest option. She received it safe and sound - however, the parcel had been left at her door (where it sat unattended for some time) and the package was exposed to the rain! So I'd prefer to choose a shipping option that guarantees in-person delivery (poss. with signature) but there's no way to tell that from the Amazon side. Can anyone kindly advise?

(Of course I'm feeling eager right now so I may just plump for Priority Delivery by Winged Dragon out of sheer impatience...)

I was contemplating upgrading to one day shipping. I logged in and had a pleasant surprise that my orders previously due on Jan 19-20 are now due much sooner.
White 3G now "shipping soon" with a delivery estimate of Jan 11-12
Graphite Wi-Fi now "delivery estimate" of Jan 12-14

Anyone who upgraded to one day shipping may not have needed to but sooner has to be better than later!

Enjoy your Kindles when they arrive. Do try and avoid stalking the delivery guy, that can get you in trouble.

My order is now predicted to arrive on Tuesday the 11th.

I'm sort of hopeful it gets here Monday since it arrived in Louisville this afternoon and is only a few miles away.

My folks' reader is scheduled to arrive on the 11th, too. I really hope the 3G works (it should according to the map) so they can start reading right away! They're fans of the C-Span show "Book Notes" and will really love the idea of getting an immediate sample of the book under discussion!

That's a great idea!

I'd only had my other Kindle for a few days, so those sort of possibilities hadn't occurred to me. There's a show on a PBS affiliate that discusses local authors that I'll be enjoying more now and it'll be nice to have instant samples during the author interviews on The Daily Show.

Neato!

Same here. I canceled my order for wifi (ordered nov 29th) to 3G+wifi on December 29th, and Amazon says they'll ship it on the 21st/22nd. I don't trust their estimate though, they are being very unreliable atm so won't be surprised if I get my kindle in mid february.

From what I can gather from other forums, Amazon is very quick regarding shipping. Personally I chose standard shipping, but I might upgrade to priority. In Canada, If the package is handled by Canada Post won't they at least ask for a signature?? They usually do with most packages I think...

Before i changed my order, i called Amazon to ask what was going on and they told me that they sold out of International K3's due to high demand during the holidays. Mine was expected to arrive the same day as yours and when i ask if i would get it by then - he told me they hoped so. So who knows really.

For my Kindle case i chose Priority shipping and it was delivered to my door, and I'm pretty sure they didn't ask for signature.

Received notification that my order was shipped today - January 13 - which is one week earlier than the earliest day originally stated. Estimated delivery date: January 17.

Incidentally I finally opted for Priority International Courier, more because I'd assumed it was safer as well as faster. Now that it's actually shipped, the actual method is displayed: it's coming via UPS. Damn! Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't just leave it sitting outside my door (as happened to another Canadian on another thread) or turn up demanding additional customs/cross-brokerage charges (as has also happened, although apparently not typically since, of course, Canadian customers must pay the customs charges in advance during Amazon Checkout).

I'm sure it'll be fine. *nervous twitch*

Realisticly speaking, all of the Kindles are made to work across the globe. If you got a US model it should work in Vietnam or Belguim. I just know that the US folks cannot order the International version and International folks cannot order the US version. The only work around is if you know someone in the US or another country.

Everyone I know that has a Kindle here in Malaysia has the US version, regardless of what type of Kindle, 3G or WiFi, because they ordered and had them delivered to a US address then couriered to Malaysia.

The people I know with the 3G version have both used the 3G to download and said it worked fine, although I didn't think to ask if there was an added charge. All of their Amazon accounts have their addresses somewhere in the US, one is using the address of the White House and Amazon allowed it? As for the WiFi only models, they have no issues but my guess is that WiFi is universal and there is only one flavour.
