Just finished Labyrinth by Lois McMaster Bujold. Enjoyable enough, but I think I'll stop trying to read her early works and skip to the good stuff (more recent) now.

Consistently, each time I click on the link, "LibraryThing" opens, then when I click on the book icon, Chromium hangs. Anyone else, who uses this browser, having this difficulty? Firefox works fine, so it appears to be a browser-specific issue with this site.

I'm glad that you are enjoying it! I think that a sequel is scheduled for this year, as well as a movie adaptation with Johnny Depp.

I finished Elantris. A good book, I really enjoyed it. It did have some shortcomings, but they are negligible (IMO) considering that the book was the author's first published novel. I'd love to see a sequel, I think that there is much left to explore in the "Elantris" world.

Gordon Ryan's Books--Excellent!

I recommend the many excellent Kindle books by Gordon Ryan from New Zealand. Below are a few. If you like them, there are several others.

Threads of Honor
http://amzn.to/e0AHgB
"'Threads of Honor' is guaranteed to give you goose bumps." -- Boys' Life, September 2004

"... all-American ingredients, masterfully mixed... Infectious inspiration for the Yankee Doodle Dandy in every American." -- The Boox Review, June 2004

“...I felt the cartilage in my back stretching and it struck me that I had never stood so tall — that after twenty years in a military uniform, the proudest moment of my life had come in a Scoutmasters uniform standing beside this flag.” The moving story of a group of Boy Scouts who learn the meaning of patriotism, honor, and courage. Worth reading for anyone who still feels that America is a country worthy of respect and honor.

State of Rebellion - A Pug Connor Novel - Book One (2 more in this series)

"Ryan is known for his spare, lean prose, and his amazing understanding of the human condition. This latest offering may be his best yet. The subject matter is timely; the action is credible and often nail-biting." *
Jeff Needle, AML--Book Reviews

"Ryan is well known for his political intrigue novels and vast knowledge of political and military tactics. *Fast and enthralling. *Dialog is real. *Presents a truly strong female character who is still feminine." *
--Jenny Hansen, Meridian Magazine

The Spirit of the Union Trilogy--3 books--99 cents

I'm about halfway through The Crown Conspiracy. It's great. I don't have a good feel for the main characters, yet (which is a big minus), but the plot is very interesting.

I read the second book first, so I felt I already knew the characters before actually starting the first one. I just started the third Nyphron Rising, so far so good.

I have never heard of Shantaram. I will have to look it up on goodreads.

I did recently finish Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett. I found it to be very good. Had me laughing out loud in a lot of places. It is not a book to read in public if you don't want to get looked at.

Quote:
"May you live in interesting times" is the worst thing one can wish on a citizen of Discworld—especially on the distinctly unmagical sorcerer Rincewind, who has had far too much perilous excitement in his life. But when a request for a "Great Wizzard" arrives in Ankh-Morpork via carrier albatross from the faraway Counterweight Continent, it's he who's sent as emissary. Chaos threatens to follow the impending demise of the Agatean Empire's current ruler. And, for some incomprehensible reason, someone believes Rincewind will have a mythic role in the war and wholesale bloodletting that will surely ensue. (Carnage is pretty much a given, since Cohen the Barbarian and his extremely elderly Silver Horde are busily formulating their own plan for looting, pillaging, and, er, looking wistfully at girls.) However, Rincewind firmly believes there are too many heroes already in the world, yet only one Rincewind. And he owes it to the world to keep that one alive for as long as possible.
The book I am reading now is a reread as I am reading it to fix most of the errors in the eBook. It's Vince Flynn's The Third Option

Quote:
Mitch Rapp, the CIA's top counterterrorism operative, is sent on his final mission, to eliminate a European industrialist who has been selling sensitive equipment to one of terrorism's most notorious sponsors. But he doesn't know that the ultimate target of this mission is himself. Set up by forces within the US who do not want the next Director-elect of the CIA to take over, and therefore need a disaster for the present regime, Mitch refuses to die... the conspirators have made an awful miscalculation. They have enraged one of the most lethal and efficient killers the CIA has ever produced. Now they will pay.

I hope you like the In Death series. I've read the first 8 (or is it 7.5) so far. I have the next one to read soon.

Wow it looks like there's a big trend in fantasy right now on MR, seems like that's what everyone's reading! Except me, of course.

I started "The Indifferent Stars Above" by Daniel James Brown last night in hardcover (from the library). It's about the Donner party. We shall see how it goes!

I've been reading LOTR and am almost to the end of the first book. As far as I can tell there are no errors, so if anyone was looking to get it, it looks fine to me
