My 2 cents. I love reading on my Kindle, and it would take a lot more than just lack of library reading for me to trade it in for something else. Besides (and I don't know if other people's experience is the same), everytime I check out what they have at my local library, the only books that are readily available are self-help, religion, or bodice-rippers. Right now, no thanks. I have a ton of other stuff to read.

there is a new thread every month. quite often when you look at one of the suggested books in that thread, Amazon will pop up with other suggestions. you can also filter your Amazon book searches by price from 0.00 and up. happy hunting!oh! and you need to check that thread every day and even several times a day if possible as sometimes these books are free for mere hours. |

			Return the kindle

Get a nook or sony reader What the OP wanted to know was if the kindle can do lending of adobe DRM epub, and the answer is no, it can't read overdrive books from libraries, so return it, and get a nook or sony reader and you'll be all set. You can buy any book pretty much from B&N and it will work on their reader (cost may be slightly higher than kindle store) however, kindle probably won't support epub/library lending any time in the future. Besides epub is the most common ebook format online next to PDF. Mobi is what kindle uses, and it is far less common. Converting is always an option, but it can be problematic if you are working with protected documents (like library books). |

Regarding your statement about common formats... I have to wonder what the reality is. If Amazon/Kindle dominates the market with mobi while epub has a wider range of EBRs, then how is common defined? If, say mobi is 60% of the market but only runs on 1 EBR and epub is 40% of the market but runs on all other EBRs, which format is considered the most common? (Those %ages are made up numbers as I have no idea what the reality is). |

				send the Kindle back

If they will take it, then send it back. Find out what ebook format your library uses and then look at the other readers and see which one will read that format. I evaluated both kindle and nook in the fall of 2009 and went with the nook because the kindle used a proprietary format (derived from the old Mobipocket format) and the nook read .pdb (eReader), epub, and pdf, which covered a lot of the ebooks out there. While it's true that Amazon has more ebooks for sale right now, B&N is catching up quickly.

I have tried that method of "fixing" Amazon ebooks for reading on other devices (figuring if I bought the book then I had a right to read it however I wanted), however, it does not always work. |
