130 free books from Kaplan - Page 2

Well, I'm choosing and downloading some of them, but the process is so slow that I can see my toenails growing. (And trust me, you don't want to see that.)

I used B&N since they were available and Sony was still showing $$$$. Funny, I did this last night and I still have not gotten any confirmation emails yet. They had better not have charged me.

I only get confirmations from B&N for paid purchases. I've never gotten any for freebies, unlike Amazon which sends me confirmations for everything.

Well, I just checked the http://www.freekaplanebooks.com/ and they have the Kindle picture back, so I expect the free Kindle versions to be available soon.

Getting access/URL for the Kindle books seems to require a password, and just searching on "Kaplan SAT" within The Amazon Kindle store doesn't show any free books. I guess we have to wait and see to whom the passwords are issued.

Sony has considerably more free than show on their Reader Store link in the OP. Easiest way to find the lot is to just type Kaplan into the search box, then sort by Price. Probably also switch it to display 25 or 50 results at a time, otherwise you get 13 pages of them.

By the way, these aren't free for Canadians in the Sony store. Not a single one, not even the titles which were previously free promo for us.

Great - that's where I wanted to get the epub versions (not only are B&N's a pain, but they have a bad tendency to charge you "accidentally" for free books.

I have gotten confirmations for other FREE books that I've "purchased" which is why I was expecting them. They have told I could download and provided a link. Not this time. But since I have not gotten any emails telling me I purchased with a PRICE attached to the "purchase" I'll be content.

I "purchased" a fair number of the books from Sony, for a total of $0. I downloaded some of the first-person medical and legal stories, as some of them sounded interesting. More titles added to my impossibly long TBR list!

I have never had a problem with getting charged for a free book from B&N before, until today.

I selected several of the Kaplan freebies, (yes I did double check their price first). Just caught a glimpse of one of the "thank you" screens and it listed the price as "31.64". So I went and checked my orders and sure enough I was charged $31.64.

An email and 2 phone calls later, nothing is resolved. It sounds like their system is overwhelmed. Even telling them the order number and exact time the order was placed, along with all my personal info, didn't help. The answer, "Call back in 48 hours".

Sorry for the rant, but I'm not too happy right about now.

Their system is overwhelmed because problems that should be resolved with one phone call or e-mail are requiring multiple calls. At least that's my humble opinion. I'm up to five attempts to solve a problem with them over a two-week period--the first request was mishandled (they "solved" something that wasn't a problem), the next three were apparently ignored, I'm now waiting on the fifth attempt. the nook forums at B&N are filled with problems and reports of ghastly customer service (or lack thereof). Not to mention computer systems overwhelmed; some are waiting up to five days for their book purchases to complete, so they can download them (B&N blames their credit card companies, which might be true in some cases, but not all). And the reports of charges for free books from before this promo are there and for this promo are there and on my blog, plus here.

Thanks. I was having trouble getting the b&n copies. I do wonder - has Amazon every said "Okay, enough is enough, you cannot have anymore FREE books!!!!"?????
