Let me summerize my experience so far:

ebook, epub etc: go for a smaller device than 9.7"
- a 9.7" is great to read but I dislike to move around with such a large device. On the other hand my focus is to read PDFs.

A4 pdf: I enjoy reading pdfs on a large display and the PB 90x is perfect for that

Newspaper PDFs: I still have no opinion

PB903:
(zooming) I miss the flexibility to use the pen for zooming - I find it pretty bad but for A4 PDFs it is still fine

(annotation) You only mentioned reading. If that is your only concern the PB is certainly good enough. However, if you want to do more like annotating - you are in trouble.

Overview:
PDF only 9.7"
Annotating: No better device known to me - I hope for a better software release in future.
I would like to annotate, but from what I've seen on youtube reviews of various touchscreen e-ink devices, annotation is quite slow in general for e-ink, so I'm not hoping for much. Can you annotate PDFs with the 903, or is it just slow?

There have been some previous threads on that issue.

The summary is:
The software (so far) does not support annotations - seeing the overall speed of the PB, I expect that it is not a hardware issue.

annotation is very important for me - my understanding is that this current limiation is "only" a software issue, so I am taking a punt tha xournal will be ported to it at some point (probably later rather than sooner, though some lovely soul is already at least thinking about this
it is, though, quite an expensive punt I am taking, which is why, Latinandgreek, I would suggest to wait if you have no particular urgency -even two or three weeks would give you a better idea of the speed of software development we can expect from the guys at PB.

Don't the Orthodox Christmas holidays take place about then? I'm not sure we can accurately judge the speed of the Ukrainian developers at this time of the year. Let's give them some slack over their Christmas break.

Today is Orthodox Christmas Eve (Merry Christmas to any Orthodox Christians here at MR).

Off-topic: Orthodox Christmas just for Russian Church and some other churches which are related to it (I have no idea which, though, probably in former USSR states and other countries like Bulgaria). For example, Romanian Orthodox Church and the Finnish one celebrate Christmas on the normal dates.

On-topic: Once Xournal is ported, annotation problem would be mostly fixed. Too bad the SDK is not public yet.

Off-topic: I'd forgotten about that. And, actually, some Catholics celebrate Christmas today, I believe, such as Ukrainian catholics (if I remember correctly).
