i just read this thread. h0ly cr@p.

the day my first kindle was delivered and was waiting for me at home, i spotted my first kindle in the 'wild'. i'd been so excited about my new kindle, but then i saw the guy's kindle flash black on the page-turn, and thought, "uh-oh.. not sure i'll be able to live with that..." but i'd been waiting for this technology since the 70's, so was determined to give it a shot. my blink-rate ended up synchronizing to my page-turns so my eyes were shut when the page blacked. now, nearly two years later, my eyes still close right when i hit the page-turn click.

if one lives in an area without a strong 3g signal, the 3g device really does seem to be useful mainly for travel. if you don't travel, maybe you could return the kindle you have and get the wifi only model to save $50.

oh. and, if i hadn't been killing time while i waited for my kindle hanging out on the amazon kindle discussion board, i never would have discovered that USB connector on my own except by accident.

anyway. if you don't like your kindle/can't get used to it/don't want to get used to it/don't think you should have to get used to it, for heaven's sake send it back. it's for relaxation and enjoyment, not stress and frustration.

Self-censored. I read many posts here which are just centered on attacking a particular device. On a first read, I though this was one of those. Sorry for my poor response.

I don't see any other place to set a spending limit.

I believe the only way to prevent one-click ordering is by removing the credit card info, as you point out in the second part of your sentence. I'm not sure why you tossed in the part about setting spending limits.

Ok I'm speaking up because I don't like this at all.

It starts with 1 snidey comment and then other people jump on the bandwagon with other sarcastic comments.

I'll admit that the way the original post was written got my back up a little but hey not everyone is great at the way they write things - me included.

But none of us know the person who has taken the time to come here and post a message. Perhaps they are overwhelmed by the technology - that doesn't make them stupid. We're all newbies once. Some people are lucky that they are great with gadgets and computers but that is not the norm at all. Most people I know in the real world do not understand how these things work.

So I guess I'll make myself unpopular with this post but that's ok as I've got a very tough skin. Being spiteful, sarcastic or poking fun at newbies does not give mobileread a good reputation. That's all.

Good on ya Kindleworm.
This thread was getting quite catty.
Other forums I visit (firearms, engraving, woodworking, Cars) would not have tolerated it and a moderator would have locked it.

It looks like you may be able to turn 1-Click on or off by going to "Your Account" at Amazon. Then, in the "Settings" section, select "1-Click Settings" and on the next screen there's a selection on the right to turn it off.

Exactly, and karma and kudos to you, Kindleworm, for speaking up. I have reported the rude posts in this thread, and I am ashamed of y'all. This is not how we want Mobile Read to be perceived.

Thank you and karma to you for speaking up, Kindleworm.

It's very easy to buy books accidentally on the Kindle - so much so that Amazon provide a button to cancel accidental purchases and get a refund, or you can call Amazon customer service to do the same thing. I've read elsewhere that it's the biggest reason given by customers for returning Kindle ebooks. It was even discussed a couple of months ago here in Mobileread - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99517.

I was pretty disappointed with the way this thread has just deteriorated into trying to make the op feel bad, irrespective of whether their post was worded well or not.

TheKindleWorm has my vote (and Karma) with the post above.

Great post. The sarcastic remarks towards the OP were completely uncalled for.
