Not to me. Life is life. I get really excited when I see new things sprouting in my garden, and it's a lot cheaper to leave plants when we travel than leaving the cat in the cat house. (Here that cost us almost as much as we spent for our own hotel room in Florida!) I plant just about every kind of seed that I come across when eating, so I have orange trees, a persimmon tree, of course an avocado tree, still waiting on the mango to sprout, etc., etc. as well as all herbs I need for cooking. God only knows what I'm going to do when these trees get too big for my veranda.

By the way, delivery was a success, but it turns out the twins have a brother rather than a sister! Who knew?

That means I can take this loose tea thing on the road if I need to! I bought them through Amazon from "House of Rice" because they were much cheaper than the ones from the tea websites. oh I am totally into my growing things, it's just that I tend to butcher them at a certain point in time, whereas, the kitties are always cuddly

I prefer to think that I freed them from a life of servitude.

Imagine... forced to live in crowded conditions on the side of a hill. Rigorously cut back in conformity with those to the left and right of you? Denied all rights? Given food only once or twice a year? Could you, in all good conscience, leave innocent babes to that sort of life?

Personally, I wouldn't be able to face myself in the mirror in the mornings. And now another glass of Bombay Sapphire just because I am such a good and noble person.

the northern part of Vietnam gets cold winter. Not as cold as your winter, but a 10-degree day is a real challenge for tropical residents.

Frankly, although I can usually get things to sprout, except for herbs and other really easy-to-grow plants I don't have much of a green thumb either. I do a good job with aloe and Christmas cactus (which really looks pretty right now with hundreds of red/pink/white flowers, but unless it's a weed, it never sees adulthood.

At least my cats and dogs have always been healthy. I wish I could have a dog too, to go along with the cat, but for now, plants will have to suffice.

Time for my first cup of Earl Grey. I'm trying in vain to be productive today. Any tips to get me going? I'm trying to finish the journal article from hell. You know when you are almost done writing something and you just have to add the finishing touches? That's always the worst part for me.

And this is why I left Academia. I loved working on papers and presenting them at conferences. When it got down to doing the stupid stuff needed to send them out for publication all I wanted to do was research something new.
