It's a shame you've taken such an instant dislike to the Kindle. I'd imagine you will dislike most ereaders if this is how you really feel about your first one, and the one that seems to get the most positive reviews.

If the online purchasing is an issue, would you be better off with a reader that has no networking built-in?

What were you looking for in a reader that the Kindle doesn't do or do well enough?

As others have said, 3g signal is spotty depending on where you live and isn't the fault of the Kindle itself.

I think that devices with the reflective LCD screen don't have the black "flash", or a backlight:

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Reflective_LCD

Such as the Jetbook devices. If the flash really bothers you, you could try one of those out.

Well then, isn't it great that Amazon has that liberal return policy!

Maybe a kindle just isn't for you. Books sound like a much safer option.

This is clearly a demon Kindle. First, it blatantly misled you on proper use of the power cord. Then, it ordered three things for itself. Now, it's turning "dark". I would advise sending this obviously evil Kindle back to Amazon before things get any worse.

Maybe, except they might drop it on their toe and break it, either the toe, or the tablet, or maybe even both.

I have to admit: When I first got my K3, I didn't think it came with a USB cable, either. IMHO, they should ship the AC adapter piece and the power cord unattached. Sure, it only took me a minute or two to figure out what was going on, but considering the fact that my K1 came with the power cord and USB cable as separate entities, I can understand why someone might get confused.

I had that mental hiccup as well. Just as I was thinking, "Wait. There is no...." I saw that the two were connected. I then had to chuckle at myself for being so silly.

I'm not understanding how you managed to buy 3 books mistakenly. Are you purchasing books from the Kindle? If so, stop using the Kindle to purchase books, and do it online instead. I purchase all of my books on Amazon because it's quick and easy. Then all you have to do is briefly turn on the wifi so that the books can be moved to your Kindle.

It sounds like you may be technology challenged. If you're going to get frustrated this easily, it may be best if you return the Kindle & go back to DTB.

I'm actually fascinated as to how one purchases not one, but three(!), books "by accident".

I'm trying to get Strider to mess around with my Kindle while it is connected... lots of page turns, no purchases as yet

I have to admit, the only reason I instantly knew how the usb/wall plug worked is because my roommate has a USB wall wart for his iPod. I've never had a USB wall charger before, despite the number of gadgets I have.

I think the OP should give it a little more time, and also hit some stores and check out other readers and related devices to see if something else would fit them better. Perhaps a trip to the "which one should I get" forum would be helpful as well.

I think you should send the Kindle back right now. Don't wait. If you can't master one-click ordering you really need to get rid of the Kindle until you have some sort of guardian assigned by the ever benevolent federal government to take care of you.

Of course, Kindle is not reponsible for your 3G reception. My Kindle DX has only 3g and the service was unavailable for over a day. Not once did I think about whining about either the Kindle or Amazon. Foolish me.

Yeh, just get rid of the Kindle within the 30-day return period, get your money back, and get an IPad.

On its own, I agree, it is confusing. And if this had been the only query then I wouldnt have reacted so naughtily, but it was just one of many (I think anyway, silly) issues that have been raised by this person. I am surprised the intricacies of the Amazon purchase area didnt defeat them. Ok, I gotta layoff now.
