I need help. I'm trying to remember a fantasy series where the author finished writing all books before he published. I think there were 6 books. I can't remember if I saw the tips on this author here at MR or if it was somewhere else.

I think I might have come across it in a blog post or article discussing the unusual approach to write all books before releasing it.

I've tried to search for it but so far I've come up with nothing.

I don't know the answer, but I wish more genre authors followed his/her example... whoever he/she is.

Thank you for pointing me to that post, but that wasn't it. I believe it was closer to Christmas, around the 20-26 December and I'm not even sure it was here at MR I read about it.

No problem. I'm very curious to find out what the series is! Please be sure to mention it here if you find out.

Ummm, it might have been me. That was around when I read The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha from Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelations and I plugged it quite a bit around here and on goodreads. I think the series gets better as it goes.

Copied from goodreads:
Quote:
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Crown Conspiracy is the first of a six book series entitled the Riyria Revelations. This saga is neither a string of sequels nor a lengthy work unnaturally divided. Instead, the Riyria Revelations was conceived as a single epic tale told through six individual episodes. While a book may hint at building mysteries or thickening plots, these threads are not essential to reach a satisfying conclusion to the current episode—which has its own beginning, middle, and end.

Eschewing the recent trends in fantasy toward the lengthy, gritty, and dark, the Riyria Revelations brings the genre back to its roots. Avoiding unnecessarily complicated language and world building for its own sake; this series is a distillation of the best elements of traditional fantasy—great characters, a complex plot, humor, and drama all in appropriate measures.

While written for an adult audience the Riyria Revelations lacks sex, graphic violence, and profanity making it appropriate for readers 13 and older.
I posted in the What Are We Reading thread as well.

I've seen the listings for George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers novella, and I don't think it's the same thing. The one I'm thinking of was set on a spaceship (mostly) headed for Nemesis (I think)--a new 10th planet. I seem to remember that for some reason the crew had to destroy the ship at the end, stranding themselves.

Any ideas?
Came out over 20 years ago with a story about a spacecraft going to a planet called Nemesis could suggest the the Isaac Asimov novel "Nemesis" (first published 1989). In this book Nemesis is another system with a red dwarf star, a gas giant planet with a possibly habitable moon, Erythro.

There was a mysterious plague that effects people's minds, but I can't think of any "nightflyers" in it ... although it's been a while since I read it. The Nemesis system is detected as on a collision course for the Solar System (collision as in disturbing the orbits). The spacecraft heading to it is actually like a space station, "Rotor", that decided to migrate from Earth. There is a 15yo girl on the station that plays a significant part of the story.

It doesn't sound exactly what you're looking for, but thought I'd mention it.

OK thought I'd try out this thread the book I read is a true crime book based in the East Coast New Jersey I think it involved a group of teenagers that murdered another and killed him and they tried to burn him and a big key in the trial was a rag hanging from the gas tank that never burned and I think the car was a Camaro, thanks for any help

Thanks for replying. I looked up Asimov's Nemesis, and I'm pretty sure that isn't what I'm thinking of. I'm wondering if I'm wrong about the "Nemesis" part....

Had to try The only other nightflyer I remember is "The Night Flier" a short story by Stephen King - but no spacecraft or 10th planet in that.

You may want to take a look at this Wikipedia page about fictional planets of the solar system. Down in the "Trans-Neptunian planets" section there's a dozen books listed that you may want to look through.

This was the one I was looking for. I'm so glad you were able to pinpoint it with my somewhat vague explanation. Brilliant.

LadyHeather, in case you don't find any epub format, maybe you should search for the pdf version and convert it later.

(pdf version is a lot more popular, I think)
