PRS-300 Charger for the PRS-300

I've searched MR and found lots of threads on charging but they seem to lump all the Sonys together and I'm not sure I understand if the solution for the PRS-300 is the same for all the newer readers. Since I am only interested in getting a charger for my PRS-300, I'd like to hear from other owners to find out what they ended up getting.

1. Did anybody find a USB charging block that they can plug their grey Sony cable into that will charge their 300?

2. I understand a PSP charging cord works. My kids had Nintendo DSes so I'm SOL there. Is there a big box store that carries PSP cords or will I need to order one online?

3. Are there 3rd party charging cords that work? Who has them?

Like most people, I've got more charging cords than I can stand and don't really want to spend another $25 to get another specialized cord. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I got one on ebay that works great.. it was around $7.00 for a set of a wall charger and car charger. just search for "2 CHARGER FOR SONY eBOOK READER PRS-300 600 900 700 505"

also, another seller has just the wall charger for $5.00..
search for "WALL AC CHARGER FOR SONY READER Pocket Edition PRS-300"

If looking for a PSP charger go to GameStop. They should have lots of used/refurbished chargers for around $7.

I have a PRS300 too. I found that you just cannot connect the USB cable to a standard 5 volt USB charger to recharge the battery. The USB cable must be connected to a powered up computer to begin charging. There is a red light near the power switch that shows charging is underway.

My quick and dirty solution was to pick up a 2-in-1 USB 2.0 Power Data Cable for PSP from DealExtreme that has both a mini USB connector AND a PSP power connector at one end with a standard USB connector at the other end. This cable can be used with any 5 volt charging unit to charge the battery in the Reader. Use the yellow tipped power connector rather than the mini USB and the red light comes on immediately showing charging is underway. This cable cost me less than $2.00 and solved the problem.

Something you might want to try... Staples have huge discounts on Sony PRS-300 - 600
covers and chargers... Was in the other day, 300 lighted cover $5.00 - reg. cover $1.50
AC charger... $5.00 NIB...

Check at your local Staples... Or call the The Dalles, Oregon Staples they have a Sony AC charger on the bargain table for $5.00 - they most likely will send it out to you... They also have a 300 lighted cover and a couple of reg. covers left... At above prices... These are found on the bargain table...

I picked up a lighted 300 cover, 600 reg. cover and a reg. 300 cover... Total cost $8.50

Crazy... I know.

Two Staples in my area have the charger...for $19.99! They also have the cover with the light...for $39.99!!!
Ordered a charging cord from Amazon and I haven't decided on a cover yet.

Have your Staples run the price through their register at check-out...

I had them do that here in the The Dalles, OR and that's when the low
prices showed up, as per my previous post.

Of course this might be just a regional thing with the low prices that I found
here in Oregon... Give them a call and have them run the prices and see if the low prices don't show up... i.e. not what's marked on the box's... But again have them run the item through their system. Regardless of what's marked on the box...

I found a PRS-300 lighted cover in RC Willey today for $7.00...the PRS-300 was $59 on clearance. I bought both and ended up returning them.

I just like the Pearl screen on my 350 too much...
