Ich habe es auch gleich zweimal zu Weihnachten verschenkt (als Printbuch leider).

Das hab ich auch noch auf dem Kaufschirm. Allerdings hatte ich mir den Reader eigentlich angeschafft, weil ich so gern Klassiker lese und die für den Reader nichts kosten. War wohl mal wieder eine meiner Milchmädchenrechnungen

Ich hänge gerade in Kapitel 9 von Elizabeth Moons Sheepfarmer's Daughter fest. Eigentlich sollte das Buch genau mein Ding sein, aber irgendwie will die Sache nicht ins Rollen kommen. Die Welt ist Fantasy-Standard, die Charaktere bleiben irgendwie blass und zweidimensional, und der szenenweise Erzählstil hilft auch nicht gerade, das Ganze zusammenzuhalten.

Jetzt lese ich erst einmal zur Abwechslung etwas von storiesonline.net, mal sehen ob's danach mit Paksenarrion besser geht...

Gestern fertig gelesen. Ich fand das Buch genial. Die Story regte sehr zum Nachdenken an.

Das las ich vor einiger Zeit und war so begeistert, dass ich mir dann auch gleich "The Deed of Paksenarrion" angeschafft habe. Gerade die langsame und detaillierte Erzählweise hat mir gefallen, bei der der Leser die Entwicklung der Charaktere quasi in Echtzeit mitverfolgen konnte.

Paks ist und bleibt unnahbar, auch und besonders für mich als Leser, ohne aber diese Unnahbarkeit dadurch wett zu machen, dass sie rätselhaft oder geheimnissvoll wirkt.

Die spannendsten, interessantesten, menschlichsten Figuren bei dem ganzen sind, in dieser Reihenfolge, der "Agressor", der Vorgesetzte, dem das Ganze zum Himmel stinkt und der nicht locker lässt, bis Paks rehabilitiert ist, und der eigentliche Bösewicht. Paks selber ist hier irgendwie nur Statist, und ich würde an dieser Stelle viel lieber mehr über diese drei Personen erfahren als über Paks. Und DAS halte ich für ein Problem in einem Buch, das mit "The Deeds of Paksenarrion" überschrieben ist...

Meisterwerk. Also ich weiß nicht. Sehr ambitioniert und deshalb für meinen Geschmack nicht wirklich gut. Er benutzt in jedem Satz Metaphern, wenn es geht gleich mehrere. Das ist ein No-no. Die Idee ist süß, die Protagonistin auch, der Schreibstil eher mittelmäßig, wie ich finde.

Was macht es denn für Dich zum Meisterwerk?

Gute Frage!
Für mich ist es very British, nostalgisch (Miss Marple), liebenswert. Aber auch neunmalklug, zählflüssig, teils zusammengestückelt und zu viel Chemie.

Neunmalklug ist normal bei Kinderhauptdarstellern und sie ist ein Schatz verglichen mit diesem absolut unerträglichen Harry P.! Das ist ein verdammter Klugscheißer. Wie der 18 werden konnte, ohne von einem Erwachsenen den Hals umgedreht zu bekommen erklärt sich nur dadurch, dass er eine fiktive Persönlichkeit ist.

Wie gesagt, charmant finde ich es, aber stilistisch fragwürdig. Vielleicht erzählt uns mtravellerh weshalb er es für ein Meisterwerk hält.
