Nope. Color eink is not yet viable. It is being developed and tested but the page turns take far too long.

I am looking forward to the E Ink Triton colour electronic paper film. The first device equipped with it will be made by Hanvon and is scheduled to appear in March 2011.

And it will be very expensive. Not worth it (IMHO).

The problem with the K3 browser is not that it is black and white, the problems is that e-ink does not work like an LCD screen so it takes longer to rearrange the screen in order to display a webpage. Someone here with a better understanding of the technology can explain the hows and whys. I think of e-ink as a version of an etch-a-sketch where there black dots are being rearranged with each page turn. Trying to do that on a web page that uses a lot of graphics and the like is painfully slow and difficult. Which is why the browser seems to work best on pages designed for mobile phones since they are designed to limit the amount shown on the phone. |

It's called the "FLEPia". A Google search will tell you more about it. Last I heard, prices were around $1000 for an 8" screen.

And... well... it has the same problems as all other e-ink browsers. Good for emergencies, but that's all... |

The OP's best shot is the Nook (not the color one).
It has: - E-ink screen - Web browser - Touch screen for navigation - Color display when needed - Wifi Works automatically in any Starbucks. |

Yeah OP, the Kindle browser navigation is pretty much useless. I spent about 5 minutes trying to use it and just gave up after being so annoyed. For me I could live with the slow refresh of the eink, but I couldn't deal with Kindle's poor navigation buttons.

I think I'll wait for a colour E Ink reader.

I purchased the Nook Color about a month ago. As an E-reader, it's been great - no disappointments (I admit I was worried about eye strain/other reading issues with LCD, but it's been awesome reading experience - nothing like reading on a computer screen at all). PDF documents look great as well, especially the color diagrams/pictures in the articles. I had low expectations for the web browser function ( after all I purchased it to read books) and have to say I am quite pleased with how well it functions. Websites look great, fairly easy to navigage. Apparently web functions will improve even more with the software update coming soon (February?). Last edited by waffleman; 01-03-2011 at 10:39 AM. |

Pocketbook are rumoured to be presenting a e-ink color Mirasol display at the CES, though it does not look great (at least to me).
As for other types of eye friendly dispalys, as far as I know Sipix is an alternative to E-ink, but it is much darker than e-ink (look at message 112 in this thread for a comparison). For all about Pocketbook (I guess you mean either the 603 or th3 903 models), the easiest is to look around the Pocketbook forum. ![]() |
