Viewer in 0.7.35
Has anyone had any problems with the Viewer in 0.7.35 (and mayhap earlier)? All of the books I've been reading at home lately (I only use my JBL when I'm away from home) have been scanned PDFs that get read on Adobe Acrobat. When I went to read an ePub last night, I found the "page turn" feature to be slow and annoying so I tried turning it off. That caused the last part of the first chapter to get cut off (I tried it with two different downloaded ePubs). I turned it back on and set it to the shortest page turn speed (0.2). It improved it a bit but I still had to fool around with it quite a bit to get it to stop cutting off chapters. I also liked the scroll wheel to turn pages feature but had to also keep it turned off because I would lose chapter ends. I finally got so frustrated, I uninstalled 0.7.35 and reinstalled the last version I had used: 0.7.31. Even that one was a bit tempermental (I have to use the scroll wheel at the ends of chapters to avoid cutting them off) but it was a lot better (like I said, it had been a while since I last used the Viewer).
Another minor problem I wasn't going to worry about has to do with the new Title Sort field. I like it but when I download meta data using the ISBN number (which is almost always), the Title Sort field doesn't change even if the Title Field does. I have to hit the little button by the Title field to force it to change. Not a big deal but it is another step I have to pay attention to (and I'm so poor, I can't afford to pay attention). |

I dont see bottoms of chapters getting cut off. You should open a ticket and attach an epub file that display this behavior.
As for the title sort not changing, I actually like that, because it tells me when the download has changed my title and i can then decide whether to keep the title or change it back. |

I see your point about the title sort not changing. For me, the title changing when I download meta data is a given but, as I said, the title sort field not changing when the title does is not a big deal for me. I'll get used to it. |

The website is really being ornery. Once I FINALLY got to the ticket screen, typed in the alleged problem, and edited my typos (to put it politely), I hit the submit button and five minutes later, the screen crashed. I'll try again later today.
Btw, what the heck are you doing working on a holiday? Don't you take any time off? (This an oblique way of saying "Thank You" for being here for us.) |

OK, I got Ticket #8153 up. I attached the two ePubs I tried. I have a DT (Dead Tree)version of the Grahame book to verify the end of a chapter was being cut off. I had assume it was happening with the Grey book when the last sentence I saw in the chapter was truncated before the next chapter began.

Good, I'll look at it later this week. The server is overloaded, calibre is becoming too popular, I have to look into setting up mirror servers.
For me working on calibre isn't work, it's fun ![]() |

After seeing on the ticket that the problem was fixed, I waited until 0.7.38 had gone several days with no reports of problems that could affect me, then downloaded it and installed it. I'm happy to report that, indeed, the page turning problems have been fixed. Thanks, Kovid!
One thing I noticed was whenever I went into preferences, I had to restart the viewer or things went all weird. I don't consider this to be a problem but thought I would mention it in case someone ran into it and didn't realize what was going on. |
