Actually "Whispersync" is the ability to sync content between Kindles and Kindle apps. It can be done via 3G or WiFi.

I think you still might be confused. There is no synchronizing done via the usb cable. And K4PC isn't capable of loading/syncing ebooks to your Kindle via the usb cable (like you suggested). The files don't mix: ebooks downloaded to K4PC can only be read on THAT installation of K4PC... ebooks downloaded to the Kindle can only be read on THAT Kindle... and ne'er the twain shall meet.

As HarryT said, if what you're doing now works, there's no need to change it. But you need a Wifi connection if you want to purchase (and download) ebooks from your Kindle. If not your wifi, then free wireless hotspots or a friendly neighbor may be the ticket.

oh sorry I didn't realize it was a girl. i just saw people telling her to a bunch of different round about ways to get internet access and it is just easiest to get a wireless router. or sell the Kindle and get a Kindle 3G.

Have you not used both or actually tried it? Or maybe you just have those options disabled.

There were a few books I purchased or received from amazon and sent to K4PC. When I hooked up my Kindle via USB and clicked the Sync button, those same books loaded onto my Kindle. They share notations, bookmarks and so on when I turn on wifi or hook it up via USB.

You are mistaken about how it works. The sync'ing is done from Amazon (via the internet) to K4PC or Kindle (via wi-fi or 3G), not via the USB cable. The actual books did not get copied. Just the Archive list gets copied. You have to download each book separately. The bookmarks, etc. for books on both devices will be sync'ed, unless you have that feature disabled.
