Lashings of wine etc as well. Also some Brandy Alexander cocktails which I got all the ingredients for yesterday. You have no idea how difficult it is to find Creme de Cacao round here!
what's a kedgeree? and would you mind posting your pork pie recipe?

Kedgeree is a dish of flaked smoked haddock and onion, cooked with rice flavoured with turmeric, coriander, cumin and garlic. Served with hard boiled egg quarters as a garnish, it is traditionally a breakfast dish originating, I believe, in India during our Empire days.

Ah, sorry. My wording was not precise. The pork pie is not home made, only the pate, ham and sausage rolls.

oh *pout* do you know what Cornish pasties are? a friend of the family used to make them, she passed on before I could get a recipe for them. I have often wondered if they are like what I always hear referred to as some sort of meat pie

Oh my, that's a lot of stuff. Had to look some of it up: pork pies and kedgeree. Meatloaf is so much easier.

Oh yes, Cornish pasties are indeed a bit like a meat pie. They are totally encased in fairly hard pastry in a kind of half moon shape and contain meat, onion, potato and carrot I think. They're a bit dryer than a traditional meat pie though as, the legend goes, they were invented by Cornish miners (or more likely their wives) as something to put in your pocket for dinner when you were working down a mine all day.

I'll dig out a recipe (I've made them a couple of times, but not for some time now) and post it in the recipes thread some time in the next few days.

Well most of it is cold stuff that was made in advance so it's not too difficult really.

I do like a nice meatloaf though. Do you use any herbs/spices in it?

I do. parsley, oregano, red pepper, chilie flakes, bread crumbs, egg, a REALLY good barbecue sauce that has no molasses or corn syrup in it. sometimes I put bits of bacon in it as well

Re: Meatloaf: Pretty much the only one I'll eat is my mom's recipe. I think I've posted it somewhere here before, when we were talking about steak tartare. I've modified it somewhat, but the basics are the same as my mom's.

New Year's menu:
Ham
Home fries with a bit of diced onion
cornbread
blackeyed pea dish (I add stewed tomatoes, onion, garlic, and salt pork to mine and cook them in the Crockpot).
