we went for 3 years in Germany without TV. my kids were little so we were always doing things with them. the last year we got a TV and VCR but only watched 2 movies on the weekends. we were outside the Armed Forces broadcast range and couldn't get German TV so it was just the 2 hours a week

I have the radio on quite often, NPR, a local coffee house type station, or just one of the music channels on TV

Try internet radio. I use my netbook in the living room as a multimedia device to stream movies, TV shows, and radio. It's great for that and I can watch and listen to stuff from all over the world. Just hook up some speakers and a large monitor and you're good to go.

Ptttt! I do live in a metro area and we do have a great PBS/Classical station it's on almost constantly...it (like many others) are available via internet - I mostly listen on my computer.

No HD radio, no plans to get one.

That is an option, and I'm obviously already tethered to my PC.

We are doing the TV via PC & Gaming Console thing, thanks to Netflix. In fact, we downgraded our subscription becuase we watch a lot more of their "Instant Watch" material than we do the DVDs, so the (now 1) DVD is more for the kids.

I have HD TV but I only watch it a few times a week to catch my favorite TV shows. Other than that I spend most time online.

My son has a Netflix sub and has been using it via his roommate's xbox. He got a Roku for Christmas and I got to see it work a bit there. I can get Netflix via Windows Media Center but am not that much of a movie watcher...

Hey, a question for you. I've browsed the movies available on Netflix's home page and it's not much of a selection. Do they offer more than what they list? If not, it's not enough to warrant money from me.

I know you were asking Kenny, but if you'll allow me: They actually do have a ton of content - both in Movies and TV (and I don't just mean 1980s tv, they have recent shows as well), covering many genres. I've even been able to catch up on back episodes of long time favorite shows like Law & Order:SVU. Its not the most current season of course, but it is only one or two behind, depending on how quickly they are released.

Netflix made a statement not to long ago stating that they will be concentrating on getting more "Instant Watch" material as over the next year.

I would suggest trying a free demo period (if they still have those), or going with one of the lowest membership packages for a month or two to see how you like it. Canceling the service is easy (we had to cancel a few years back, and there was no hassle), or you can put your account on hold for a while, should you need to walk away temporarily.

are there "red box" services in your area? they seem to have a lot of movies, and using them is very painless

Not having a sub myself, I really don't know.
