A clean break then. Obviously no one else to convince. If I tried that here there would be a divorce.

A house without a TV would just be too strange for me. My in-laws are TV-less, getting all they need from their laptops. But now the house just seems so....quiet, but in a weird, empty way.

I watch quite a bit of online programming already. Just wish BBC allowed video over here.

I do like BBC radio, so I frequently listen to the various channels. I've even tried Radio Nan Gaidheal and Radio Cymru, but that's foreign talk and I can't understand a word that's being said ...LOL.

We got rid of ours a couple of years ago when we had to economise due to me being a stay-at-home mum.

At first we had bad withdrawal symptoms - I mean, we'd been big TV watchers up until that point. I don't remember the TV being off much and we had one in practically every room.

But now when we watch TV - it's normally a DVD or something that we actually really want to watch together. We both read a whole lot more and also have evenings where we just do other things like play card games, listen to music, see friends etc.

I'd say getting rid of cable has been a massive improvement for us and we are also about £50 a month better off which is no small sum.

Life is good

I always have background noise on - TV, radio, music. Getting rid of the TV will cut my internet/TV bill in half, so that'll be good. There's still plenty of online stuff to stream; be it video or radio.

No one listen's radio anymore! Not unless, that is, they have one of those fancy-schmancy XM type thingamabobs -which I don't. I suppose if you live in a "real" city you can find good music, and a good NPR station. Our NPR station has , morning chamber music, afternoon chamber music, and only two good shows - Car Talk & Wait, Wait - both of which we download on iTunes via podcast.

Which reminds me, anyone have an HD radio, and are they all they're cracked up to be?

I love their radio plays, because they're just dramatized audiobooks and I'm really into audiobooks.

I also like old time radio shows from the 40's and 50's.
