Kindle not picked up by Calibre

Hi I have a Kindle 3 & I am running version 0.7.35 of the Calibre software. I am on Windows Vista.

The Kindle is working fine it charges up and when ever I plug it Windows picks it up straight away.

Since upgrading to ver 0.7.35 two things have started happening.

1. Everyime I open Calibre Itunes also opens up, is there a conflict here somewere?

2. The main problem I have is that it doesnt always recognise my kindle, there is no device button on the menu, its pretty random.

I have done all of the usual things, I have rebooted, unpluged the device logged in & out. I have also re-run the Calibre wizard but no luck today - it worked fine yesterday.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. It turns out that I had to unplug everything (namely my iPhone and its cable).

There is no "Find Device" option (although it would be lovely to have one).

1. Unplug all USB devices

2. Start Calibre

3. Plug in your Kindle. It takes a few seconds, but you should then see the "Device" option come up.

I have tried plugging my Kindle in first, then starting Calibre, but that does not work, for me.

Thanks Nyssa - wow what a simple solution it was the fact that the iphone was plugged in at the same time - (thats probably why itunes was firing up everytime i plugged in my kindle).

Your solution works perfectly - thanks :-)

If you have an iPhone and a Kindle, then it is a good idea to disable the Apple Device driver in Calibre. Note this does not stop you being able to send books to the iPhone as you can do it via the (recommended) Connect to iTunes feature.

I'm having the same problem on a Mac Book Pro. Just downloaded Calibre today and it will not recognize the Kindle 3. It also is opening iTunes each time.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you tried what I suggested above, as far as removing the iPhone (and any other USB devices), then starting Calibre, and then plugging in your Kindle?

I know its a different OS, but the solutions might just be the same. I do not have a Mac of any sort, so I can not test it.

Calibre is a ebook management software suite. Before you try to use it you have to figure out why your Mac won't recognize your Kindle.
