Help?
The way I heard it, ASTRO file manager will let you backup installed apps individually. The resulting apk can be copied and installed on the IQ.
Just hearsay.

I would be interested in knowing what maximum resolution, bit-rates and codec it handles.
Best I've found so far is xyplayer; it can just barely handle 340p XVID at 1.1kpbs at native resolution (not full-screen). I suspect it'll do better with Mpeg2 but I haven't found the time to test this.

I tried astro file manager and I did a search for vplayer. I found a few items named vplayer but it did not find vplayer.apk so I had nothing to copy.

The aps I downloaded not using the market are on my sd card and they are easy to copy. I just cannot figure out how to copy the aps on the phone memory.

Did you use the backup feature in ASTRO? It's a menu item.

I have tried a few different apps but none will play the files I have.

From reading the last few posts, none of them are 'powerful' enough to handle 'full resolution' video files; which is ashame - I care not about the wasted space or how it appears unnecessary its just easier not to have to convert files all my films to play them on it.

I'm not sure it is an application issue but rather a hardware issue.
Nowhere in the specsheets for the IQ or *any* of the comparable webpads is there mention of graphics acceleration hardware which means that there likely isn't any.
(A couple of the players do have a setting to choose betweem "hardware decoding" and software decoding but I have yet to see it make a difference. On MP4 or any other format.)

From my experience with PDAs I know that 340p video is the most that can be reliably be played and decoded with a 533MHz ARM processor and even that is going to depend on the codec. Codecs that are aggressive in compressing the video will tax the hardware more than MPEG2 will, for example.

That you can get fairly decent video out of the IQ is witnessed by the Youtube app but that requires content formatted at fairly low resolution even for Youtube's "HD" mode. Where he Youtube apps clearly shines is in *scaling* that low-res video to full-screen mode without trashing the frame rate.

Until somebody can prove otherwise, I would temper my expectations for video playback on the IQ. Youtube's "high-res" web video may very well be its upper limit. Which is no handicap for a webpad with no pretensions of being a *media* pad.

Your quite right, a couple of players did have hardware & software "decoding" neither of which was usable on the IQ - crashing or 'not able to play' messages appearing.

That's that fine arguably I'm possibly asking a lot of a 'glorified e-book reader' was really hoping someone may of already tested or has data to that gives the real 'top-end' of its capabilities. - Perhaps tempering my expectations is better.

Speaking of the youtube high res quality, I would be curious to know what it is running at to find out if its possible to convert and then run video files at the same rate.

Sample file was .avi ~ 1269kbps bitrate video/192kbps bitrate audio (48k Hz sample rate) @ 640x272

When I use the hamster converter and reduced it down to 3gp standard it played no problem but looks horrid.

Other was a wmv file (HD but that was just a silly test of curiousity) at its reaction.

I think you may have to reduce the bitrate. I noticed that bitrates under 1000 kbps are handled well. Anyway, 800-1000 kbps should be more than enough for 640X272.

Hello to all
Is there a way to play the videos in a small window instead of being played in full window? Some of the videos in youtube do not have a good resolution to be played in full window but still are ok if played in a small window

Best regads

Depends on the player app; some let you play them at native resolution; most just fill the screen. YXPlayer is one that does.
Otherwise, you might want to see if turning compatibility mode *off* in Spare Parts helps.
