@zetlorf: Nope, there is no simpler way. I can see your point and agree that it would be a nice option, but it's not feasible.

Unicode 5.1 support for Kindle
Is there a way to enable Unicode 5.1 or later support in kindle? I have fonts that support Indic Scripts (tamil) that look good on a PC, but appear weird on a kindle (that is the characters are positioned incorrectly - the glyph itself looks great)..

A newbie needs help with k3 fonts
I just bought a Kindle 3 and to read Chinese documents, I followed what I read in a web post to change the locale using the debug command; the Chinese is readable but the font is not dark enough.
I then googled and found this thread, followed the jailbreak and font updates instructions in the post; I don't know how it happened but the Chinese fonts now read darker and seem to be in a different font, which I like. However, I sort of don't like the new English fonts for what I see on the home page and in the menus, how do I change it back to the original Kindle fonts? |

@cristolin: I assume you have made a backup of the original fontfiles. Here is a repost of NiLuJe's post about which font does what:

@bartveld: thanks for the reply; however, I didn't back up the original fonts; so how to get those fonts? do I need to reset k3 to factory default, or if I can download them somewhere on the web?

@cristolin: A hard reset should do it. I'm not sure whether you have to jailbreak all over again, but you'll find out soon enough.

@bartveld: not knowing if a reset can fix it, and not to mention that I hate to start everything all over again, is there any place I can download the original fonts?

If I'm not mistaken, I've only changed the Serif_*.ttf on my device, so the rest is unchanged. If you send me a private message I can zip them up for you and mail them.

Just wanted to say thanks for the hacks. Much happier seeing my custom screensavers than the Amazon stock.

Is there any font hack that's good for reading both Chinese (traditional) and German?

@yorsei
你好!Use this hack and then replace the fonts with Arial Unicode from your Windows Computer. Not the prettiest font, but works great. Schöne Grüße! Last edited by ichbindasauge; 12-28-2010 at 06:00 AM. |
