Sorry if already mentioned. I haven't been following the thread as closely, but I just rooted the NC a couple days ago and need to re-read the thread.
I got both SiriusXM and Rhapsody to work on my NC. Both apps are free, but require subscriptions to each service. That's about all I've done so far other than angry birds and tried out a couple solitaire games. I need to figure out what launchers do and are recommended and a file manager...consensus on that is astro? This is my first android device so sorry if I sound or ask rather dumb questions about android terminology/interface stuff. Wanted to add a thanks for the kind folks on here for sharing pointers/help with rooting and apps and what not. The autonooter was slick and worked easy enough. Now I just have to get familiar with everything I can do now. ![]() |

Many people use Astro as a file manager. (download that). I would suggest downloading Root Explorer and ES File Explorer as well. They'll come in handy. |

I followed the instruction here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882352 I could get a clean LauncherPro with only a home button. LauncherPro is faster then ADW. |

Please try "Screen Filter" from Market. It is even better than AdjBrightness because it can override the value set in some programs (for example Kindle).
If I set AdjBrightness to take control over apps, the screen doesn't turn off in a sleep mode. |

Thanks again. Edit: Had a chance to play with it while reading a book. Very nice experience! Definitely a filter not just a lowering of brightness. Very easy on the eyes. ![]() Last edited by SCION; 12-26-2010 at 09:54 PM. |

Also working on NC:
iBird Pro Documents to Go 3.0 (hint: you don't have to repurchase. Obtain the registration info from your Dataviz account and paste it in the 'Activate' screen) |

So Google Books works now but I can't get the menu to come up (tried using soft keys) so I can't get to the table of contents or display changes. Anyone get this to work?

Google Books should work. When you say Google Books "works now" what was it doing before, and what did you do to get it to "work"?

This may be a dumb question - especially for a first post - but how exactly do you get files to open with a specific app? I haven't downloaded a launcher yet, so I select files using Astro File Manager, which asks which app to use. Surely there must be some way of linking a specific file type with a particular app - e.g., selecting a pdf file always opens Adobe Reader.
I bought a NC specifically in order to read pdfs, but as yet, I haven't found a satisfactory viewer. The Quickoffice app is terrible, as it can't read most of my pdf files, and doesn't allow page turns with a tap. This led me to root the device and download some Market apps. After installing Astro File Manager, I found I could use the built-in B&N reader to view pdfs, but that reader also has trouble displaying files properly. Adobe Reader, on the other hand, displays every file perfectly, but it doesn't have a go-to-page function, and I can't figure out how to load pdfs into its pdf list. EzPDF Reader won't load at all, as it keeps trying to access the SD Card, which I've removed from the Nook. One would think B&N would've put a better pdf viewer in a device marketed as a dedicated reader. It would appear they're being serious in their attempt to limit the NC to items purchased from B&N. My opinion is that the NC won't be a success unless they drop the Quickoffice Lite viewer and include Adobe Reader or some other usable reading app. |

It didn't work when it first came out as apparently you had to have all the Google bits in place. Now that the rooting folks have Google and the Android market working (and I installed them) Google Books also works. I installed it right from the Android Market. I just can't figure out how to bring up the menu while reading a book.
