				Happy with my thriftiness

Today I was deciding on my next book to be read and chose The Earth Abides. A quick search finds it at Kobo for $3.84 after discount. A good deal. But before I buy it I noticed the time and hurry to return a few videos to the public library before they close for the holidays. And while there what do I behold? The Earth Abides in all it's seductive glory. What to do? What to do? It took precisely 4.376 seconds for my brain to convince the rest of my body to grab the book and take it home. Evidently, the "good deal" wasn't good enough anymore. Have I now set a new precedent? If an ebook costs more than $3.84, do I automatically pick it up from the library? Am I really as cheap as people say I am? Ahh, doesn't matter cause I am happy with my thriftiness. |

Well, it leaves you $3.84 free to buy another book that the library doesn't have. And using the library's copy helps tell the library that the author is popular enough with their patrons that they should probably get more of his/her books and also gives the library a circulation numbers boost that they can point out to say that yes, this service is valued and needed when the budget cuts start to loom. Win-win! |

Funny, I looked it up after reading this thread; Amazon has Earth Abides for $5.49 and the Kobo price has also now been raised to $5.49. ETA: Sorry, I see now that you had a discount. Last edited by CarolineNH; 12-24-2010 at 10:21 AM. |

As a fellow penny-pincher, I applaud your thriftiness! ::clapping:: My best friend and I are alike. Neither of us is impressed by, for instance, a $300 bag. But we get thrills when returning from vacations with back alley forgeries and a great story to tell. |

Right there with you! I'd almost be embarrassed to carry such a cheap bag! (I'm just poking fun at myself, DG. I've spent way too much money on handbags). | |

Gotta be careful though. If you have the audacity to post on a device board and don't have it listed, mayhem will ensue. This happened to me over on the Kobo boards.( I had a Kobo that I returned). I also check the library first before buying a digital copy. I'm one of those weirdos who still reads paper books too. |
