I love being able to upload ebooks from my laptop to my Kobo. A lot of times I get ebooks/reports from signing up on certain sites and I can take them with me in my Kobo.

I love the Kobo and I agree that the epub support is a great option and as already mentioned, getting books from the library is a big plus. Also, the Kobo comes loaded with 100 free classic e-books which I am loving.

I have the original Kobo and I'm a lefty, I haven't had any issue holding it and changing pages, I just use my right hand like I used when holding a pbook. My battery lasts up to 2 weeks, sometimes 3. Page turns are very quick (thanks to the new firmware), but going to the next chapter is pretty slow. The dictionary isn't that great, you can only use it on the books loaded through the desktop app and it doesn't work on plurals (I'm hoping they might fix that). I've never used it on library books so I can't comment on how easy it is to use on them.

If all you want to do is read, then the Kobo is a good choice IMO.

I stopped by a Borders store today and took a quick look at the Kobo and a few other ones they sell. The employee told me the Kobo's wifi is limited to Borders only. Is that correct? Surely I misunderstood what she was saying.

You can open an account at kobobooks.com and purchase anything from there that is not territorially restricted. but you may or may not need to d/l the asm file and access them through Adobe Digital Editions.

I was looking for a wireless reader and I looked the Kobo and the K3, it was the Pearl screen and the fast page turns that tipped the scale in the Kindle's favor. The huge number of cases etc... available for the Kindle didn't hurt either.

This is a feature that I thought I would never use either. As it turns out, you can turn it on with the volume turned all the way down and use it as an auto page turner. I use it all the time for that. You can also make the speed go faster or slower depending on how fast you read.

I am 100% happy with my Kindle 3. It's a great reader. Unfortunately, I have never seen a Kobo so can't make that comparison for you.

I vote Kindle. Stay away from Kobo. The ereader itself is OK, but if you have any kind of a problem, they take forever to get back to you.

I returned mine and it took me about 3 weeks to see a refund. Numerous phone calls and emails were sent and never answered. I believe that if you are in Canada, you can get them at one of their bookstores. If you are in the US, Borders often gives you a hard time about giving your money back and online is really slow.

If library books are very important to you, go with a Nook or a Sony.

One good point for the Kobo is the back light.. you can't use the Kindle at night. My niece just got a Kindle 3 and it has no back light. i have an old ebookwise that i'm looking to upgrade and Kobo so far meets the requirements.

The Kobo is not back light. It has an e-ink screen.

Whatever you buy you can download any number of free Public Domain books from this site, books which members have done lots of work formatting etc. and books of your choice as well.

To be fair, experiences on this front vary. my co-worker's kobo bricked on the firmware upgrade - he took it to a store (in Canada) and they exchanged it for a new one on the spot (which consequently upgraded him from an original to a wifi). Perhaps service is better in store than online.

That is an absolutely brilliant tip. I was wondering how I could read my Kindle while on an exercise machine, once I finally make it to the gym of course
