I agree 100%. I lose the same battle every year too, but this year I put the coloured lights on when he wasn't looking and they're so far into the tree it would be too much of a pain for him to try and take them off

I wish mine looked half as good as my avatar. I let the kids do most of the decorating so it turns into a lopsided mess until I get tired of looking at it and fix it, and even then it's still pretty messy...but at least it's colourful

Rant

People, even moderators at times, who complain that you/me/someone has created a post about something that is covered elsewhere.

It's going to happen people, so get used to it.

Of course it would be best if nobody did it but a subject can be talked about in many areas, and over a long period of time.

Taking a search for Kindle gives me 20 pages of threads to read thru. The same with a search for Sony so I think that's a built in limit on MR. The real total would be much higher.

Moderators at least have an excuse, it's their job (among others). But the best we can do is to do a quick scan of thread titles and then post if we don't see something similar to what we want to say.

So what do we have (as of this moment)?
News .......................................... - 129,623 posts
General Discussions.................... - 36,986 posts
Deals, Freebies, and Resources ..- 32,537 posts
Author Self-Promotions ..............- 8,896 posts
Reading Recommendations .........- 46,842 posts
Writers' Corner ...........................- 15,972 post

That's 270,856 posts just in the first section.

Why are some people so anal?

You stole my line!!

On the other hand, anyone that does a search on just "kindle" or "sony" deserves what they get. With that being said though, I think most people are pretty polite regarding duplicate posts, but you're right, there are some jerk out there who see it as their cause to let you know what an ignoramous you are for doing it

I've read on other forums that some people feel too intimidated to come here - and I think that's pretty sad. We're all newbies once and it can be confusing to find your way around a forum when you're new to it. So it isn't just that people don't look - sometimes they're not sure how to look.

It's sometimes good to have the same topics rehashed - keeps things fresh in your memory and sometimes new ground is gained as well. I hope I never make anyone feel daft for asking.

Why don't we have a newbies question thread (easy to find like directly from the sign-on process). Then all the smartarses helpful members can direct with linx to the appropriate 'already said' thread.

I don't understand their sentiments at all. I've always found other MR members to be exceeding helpful without being condescending when it comes to technical matters and MR norms. And I speak as the frequent recipient such help.
