I've started The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time -- I'm struck by the author's nerdiness, not that he doesn't have social skills, but he's really into his mission!

Perhaps it's connected with our inability, as humans, of escaping the incessant cycle of violence and wars that continue to plague the history of our development. I believe that reading sanitised history rather misses the point about what is actually carried out in the name of some belief system, or other. Whether it's crucifixion, guillotining, labour camps, kneecapping or waterboarding, or a multitude of other inhumane punishments, I think this book would help anyone who is genuinely interested in history understand it much better.

I've read most of that. Been thinking of restarting the series. But we'll see. It's a bit slow in a lot of places.

I just started "Stranger" by Zoe Archer, the last in her Blades of the Rose series, which I've really enjoyed.

I am reading Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews. So far I don't like it as much as the first nor nearly as much as their Kate Daniels books (love them!). | |

Finished "Butcher Bird" by Richard Kadrey this evening. Published before his Sandman Slim novels, it's another romp through Hell, with demons and lost souls, this time with a human protagonist. Spyder Lee is a tattoo artist who's saved from a Bitru demon's wrath by a sword wielding blind girl and the fun begins. Not as snarky as Sandman Slim, but if your bothered by violence or f-bombs, it's probably not the book for you. Offered as a free DRM-free download from Night Shade Books. |

I'm on the last Chronicle's of Amber book. I hope to finish it tonight. Anybody have anything that they could recommend me in the same vein?

I don't think there's anything else quite like that series. |
