Yay, it works! At least on a K2, for the one book I've tried so far. I had to replace my old K2, which I kept on 2.3.3 precisely for DRM-stripping reasons with a 2.5.6 one due to a screen issue, and I was going to spend all day today downloading all 405 of my Archived books from the Manage Your Kindle page to ensure I had a properly backup-able copy with a filename I didn't have to guess the contents of. I'll probably still be doing that anyway, for paranoia's sake, in case the new script hits something it can't handle. But aside from that, |

There are now reports of success with K2 but no one has reported success or failures for K3 machines. If anyone has access to a K3, I am sure the people at Alf's site would love to know if something more needs to be done to address those devices or if they are the same as the K2's. Thanks, |

Do you mean the K4MobiDeDRM.pyw tool from K4X_Tool.zip fails on the K3 when you enter in the proper K3 serial number in the right box? Damn!!! If possible, please copy the contents of the Conversion Log window (XXX out your personal serial number) and post it to Alf or DR so that their developers can take a peak at it. Thanks, |

Spoiler:
I have edited the kindlepid.py script to include by "B006" SN and got a PID. Now I can try the new tool. Last edited by daffy4u; 12-21-2010 at 04:46 PM.

Amazon changed how the PID is calculated on the Kindle. It's no longer based on the serial number. And if I am wrong and it is based on the serial number, then the routine used to get the PID is different. Either way, the available tools no longer work with a Kindle to remove the DRM. You HAVE to use KindleForPC or KindleForMAC to remove the DRM. The tools only work there. And you do not want to use unswindle or Skindle as they don't work well.

Okay, it works on K3. BTW, I do not have K4PC installed on this computer. The file opened in MobiPocket Reader after decryption. Spoiler:

Please grab that K4X_Tool.zip and just follow the ReadMe in it. You do **not** need to use the kindlePID tool at all, you simply enter your Kindle Serial Number directly into the experimental K4MobiDeDRM.pyw from the K4X_Tool in the correct place. So please try with the experimental K4X_Tool and report back if you have a K3 machine. Last edited by KevinH; 12-21-2010 at 04:56 PM. Reason: toned it down! |

Wow then it does works on K3 as well! No need to enter any PID (that is for Kindle for iPod Touch/Kindle for iPhone/Kindle for iPad) just the serial number should be enough here. Last edited by KevinH; 12-21-2010 at 04:56 PM.

You don't need the pid generated from kindlepid.py anymore. Just the serial# will suffice.
