Where the snow is is in the very limited (and close to each other) parts of Oz that are our alpine region, in southeast Australia. Prior to deciding to move north to our sunny coast, that region (specifically the Snowy Mountains) was where we were considering buying some property and retiring to. It's a beautiful part of Oz, for my mind. But I'd note that, having walked many a mile down there in the National Parks, a standard warning on all hiking maps and in all information centers is the note to "wear appropriate clothing", as "snow and whiteout conditions can occur at any time of year with little warning". We have been there in January, March and November and experienced snow. This is a fair dump though, and it is quite cool down in the southern parts (& relatively cool here, compared to climate averages). But even a white winter day is highly unlikely for almost every part of Oz, including our south (unless you count torrential hail ).

We're expecting more rain for the rest of the week, I think. I'm dreaming of a dry Christmas, but I'm not liking my chances.

I love those! We're always on the lookout for Oreo Cows when we're driving. There are a few of them on a particular route I take every week or so, and I'm always disappointed when they're not out!

We've a lot of rain too, in our country but it is often cold as well. It get's so chilly. We have a lot of songs about a White Christmas, but actually in the last century there were but 6 white christmasses. But this year chances are high; we'll see.

No Pooh, you spied Lakenvelder cows= Dutch belted cows. We have them in black and red. Used to be quite common in the North, but now they've become rare.

AND also…..hold tight: we've got Dutch belted CHICKENS as well; also called Lakenvelders.

Galloways have coarser hair than Lakenvelders and are sturdier and wilder. They can manage for themselves in the snow and the Lakenvelder can't.
We do have Galloways in our country, in the wild, imported from Scotland.
Together with the Konik-horse (imported from Russia), they graze on the upperbanks and in the polder next to a big river near our town.
That area has become a nature reserve, because most of the wild geese of Europe (from Russia and Skandinavia) spend the winter there. A small part goes to Spain, I think.

I always know winter is coming when I see the geese migrating, flying in a V-shape above our house. I then hear their special gak-gak in the middle of the night when they fly over. It gives me a sense of continuity, seeing and hearing these birds.
