As it was said before, sometimes such laws are a bit dumb. E.g. in Russia 17-year-old may sleep with 14-year-old for a year, and then (when it will be 18 and 15) they should take a break for a year (until it will be 19 and 16), after which they are free to sleep together again.

I'll put it more clearly. What jurisdiction permits child sexual abuse? I would think that even the most liberal of areas with the widest latitude in sexual permissiveness still draws the line at child sexual abuse.

This is my third try at finding a US jurisdiction that permits child sexual abuse and I don't hear anyone telling me where it's legal. I hear people talking about 'draconian laws,' I hear people talking about 'busybodies intent on telling others how to conduct their lives,' and I hear people using semantics to say 'it's the result of the speech that is punishable. But I don't hear anyone acknowledging the fact that this man has been arrested for distributing child pornography. It will be up to the courts to decide if he's guilty or innocent of this charge.

What do they mean by "distribution"? If i will say some expression, will it mean that i "distribute" that expression to people around me?

Speech is the act itself. However, you're confusing act of shouting "Bomb" with setting up a bomb, and act of writing book about pedophiles with act of molesting children.

What really frightens me about this whole episode is the "lynch mob" mentality that is rearing it's ugly head, not just here, but in the news and the actions of the state as well.

There seems to be a mentality of let's get him in prison for any reason because we don't like what he has written. That what they do in Iran and North Korea, not what should be done in a Democracy.

Let's extend your thoughts to their logical conclusion, you must now want everybody arrested who writes in detail about murder, rape or robbery. They are illegal acts are they not? But I don't see you callng for all those authors to be arrested?

Some of you have just proved to the educated world, what a bunch of ignorant hypocrites you really are.

First you say this. And when I ask you which jurisdictions permit it, you reply with the following;

The two contradict each other. Perhaps you need to choose one or the other and stand with it.

Well said, except for the fact that he was NOT arrested for writing something. He was arrested for distributing child pornography.

I guess it's just more fun to run amok shouting "Right have been violated" eh?

Quote:

I don't see anyone calling for the arrest of an author. I DO see people demanding the arrest of an alleged child molester who has been charged with distribution of child pornography.

But I'll pose a question to think about; do you (that's the editorial 'you,') believe that people have, under the 'right of free speech,' the right to publish child pornography? After all, isn't that what Freedom of Speech is all about? The right to say or print or publish anything at all, regardless of content? Or do you think Child Pornography shouldn't be permitted? What else shouldn't be permitted? How about publishing National secrets? Perhaps the routes for nuclear waste on public roads? Should THAT be published?

Frankly, I think there are things that just should be allowed to be published.

So you are advocating arresting everyone who has written a how to make bombs book. Have I got that right?

What about "There is No Jesus" books?

"How to Cheat the on Your Spouse and not get caught"

"Pay No Income Tax!"

I'm sure all those authors are law breakers too, eh?
