Cyrillic Ereader -- which one?
I did a search and didn't see this addressed recently. Which ereaders recognize Cyrillic? I am going to get this for my dad, he already has a Kindle 2 and he does not want the Kindle 3 and he does not want to do a hack. So, what are my options? Does the Sony? The Nook? Any others? Thank you.

Regina, the jetbook and jetBook Lite handle Russian.
You might want to investigate the PocketBook models as well. |

The BeBook 2010 handles Cyrillic and have Russian menus as well. See www.mybebook.com.

Pocketbook devices are made by Ukrainians so they certainly support Cyrillic.

The Kindle 3 supports Cyrillic (Russian, Ukrainian, etc.) The folks at the the-ebook.org even made the menus in Russian and added the onscreen keyboard for Russian and Ukrainian.

I would recommend Pocketbook. I'm looking to buy the Pocketbook IQ (LCD not eInk). Pocketbook is probably the best reader available in Moscow, Russia where I live and for sure the most purchased, based on what I see being used in the Metro. I have the eSlick myself (same hardware as the Pocketbook 301) but if I had to do it over again I'd get the Pocketbook 360. Solid software, from what I've seen on the web-boards, and a really nice design.
The new Pocketbooks look really nice and if you want something larger they are coming out with a 901 model. As a nice added feature, Pocketbook has a Linvo dictionary that translates English to Russian (but they might not be on all models). |
