Ice set to bring more chaos to Britain

I'm seriously pissed at London's preparation when it comes to dealing with snow.

Quote:
Transport Secretary Hammond said the government needed to keep under review the balance between what could be afforded on snow-clearing equipment and the level of disruption.
With the disruption you've got now now-one will ever travel through London if snow is to be expected. Perhaps that should be taken into the balance.

My contribution to the vent and rant:

I'm a corporate attorney and a part time law school professor. I work 60-80 hours a week as a general rule. But I usually take the entire month of December off for vacation. So, what happens to me this year? I manage to get away from work on December 17 only to come down with the flu on December 18.

Bright side, i guess, is more time for reading.

That is beautiful, Harry. I use to love the snow.... only on the first day or two. Then I grumbled and hated it all the while I was bringing in wood, shoveling, or having to wait for the road to clear on our side street, so I could get out.

Now, that I live where it doesn't snow, I miss it. For some reason I have magically forgotten all the work and delay it caused.

I find it hard to read when I'm down with a cold or flu. I get a headache quickly trying to read.

Get well soon!

Ever since my mother got an iPod earlier this year she is really getting into Neil Diamond again. As long as I don't have to listen to his music I generally don't mind that. But my mother wants every album and dvd, which wouldn't bother me except that my father is rather paranoid when it comes to banks and he doesn't want to use Paypal or even, with Dutch webshops, use online money tranfer. So I've been ordering and advancing the money for my mother's ND orders.

Now, however, it seems that she has every Neil Diamond thing available in Europe and she is looking at American webshops. I tried to explain to her that you have to pay import tax but I don't think she (wants to) understand this. Through a ND forum she comes up with rather dodgy looking shops today. She proudly tells me you can pay with Paypal (I prefer that over using my father's cc). She got mad when I told her that I don't want to order at those shops because I don't trust them with my Paypal details(I guess I've inherited some of my father's paranoia).

Another thing she got mad at my new rule that when she wants me to order and pay for something I want the money up front. She still owes me nearly €100 (a lot of money for me) and every time I ask her about it she tells me she'll repay later that day or tomorrow. Hopefully I have time to discuss this situation with my dad some time next week or after Christmas because I'm really getting tired of being the go-between.

I'm currently recovering from a throat infection although I still tire quickly. I'm just glad I'm not sick during Christmas.

I say stop the ordering til she pays up and definitely trust your instincts about dodgy shops and keep your info safe. If she insists, them make her set up her own account etc...

Wish you well and hope you'll recover soon. Give yourself some space and let yourself be pampered a bit by your partner. You'll be better before Christmas.

Ohhh.... I've 'met' that ugly black ice before. Usually with catastrophic results. I'll take good healthy snow instead anytime! Especially if it confines itself to woodland and stays of the roadway!

I have posted my guaranteed flu cure in another thread recently, but if you can't find it just let me know. It's the one with the exercise...

In lieu of that, enjoy your reading, drink plenty of tea, and keep warm!

Stitchawl

Couldn't agree more.

My sister and I have been teasing her ever since my father recently pronounced his name the Dutch way: Nijl (ij pronounced as the French soleil) Di-a-mont. It wouldn't be so bad if she would listen to other artists more.

But I guess my sister and I should be glad my father isn't insisting on playing his favorite music...
