Kindle format to Sony?
I would like to use some Kindle credits I have to purchase a book on there, however, before I do so I wanted to check and see if there is any way for me to convert a Kindle book to be read on my Sony pocket reader?
Thank you! |

You have to remove the DRM from the Kindle book then convert from Mobi to either ePub or LRF.
I am unfamiliar with removing DRM from Amazon ebooks so I cannot help you further. |

Basically it's very easy.
There's a toolset available on the wild wide web which requires you to specify input file (DRM), output file (non-DRM) and press the start button. Sounds easy enough for me. Unfortunately we can not give you detailed informations. But if you use Google and specify keywords for what you want to do it shouldn't be too hard. |

The simplest way is now K4PC, plus Calibre, plus a 3rd party Calibre plug-in to strip the K4PC DRM (encryption). You need Calibre anyway to format shift from MOBI (AZW) to ePub. Apprentice Alf's Blog is the best place to read about DRM issues. The plug-ins are in the tools_2.3 bundle. As starrlamia says, this is now much easier than it used to be. Once you have the plug-in installed, importing K4PC AZW's into Calibre is no more trouble than importing a DRM-free MOBI. There is no need to install python to use the plug-in.
Note that this (stripping DRM and format shifting of ebooks you bought to use on another device you own) is almost certainly legal in the US. |

Is there also something similar for going from Nook to Sony from within Calibre?

Yes. There is a B&N ePub DRM stripping plugin in the same tools_2.3 bundle. The bundle also contains a stand alone python tool for B&N stripping, and since the ebook is already ePub you don't need Calibre (although it has other advantages).

I've been using the iPad exclusively since selling my 900 but miss the e-ink. My ereader progression has been mostly Sony (500 then 505 followed by the 900 then a Nook then back to a 900) But I had a chance to use the 950 at BB and I really like it over the 900 so I'll have both the iPad (Work Supplied) and a 950. |
