Sounds like the old joke about the philosopher talking to a woman at a party:

"Would you sleep with me for a million dollars?"

"Sure!"

"Would you sleep with me for five dollars?"

"What kind of woman to you think I am!"

"We've already settled that. Now we're dickering about the price."

I took my 89 year old mother to the Korean market with me the other day for the first time. I gave her a shopping cart to push and told her to not let herself get pushed around in there, and if she needed to get close to something just push on in. I wouldn't normally say, or do, that but in there you have to be fairly aggressive to get your shopping done!

I started a thread Computer solutions, OS, A/V, & other stuff if anyone is interested.

I run my web server and Jabber server on separate Linux installs, along with my copy of Win7 for my postgrad stuff (which I take as seriously as you take your job, I surmise). All of it works like a charm and doesn't require a locomotive's horsepower to run well.

Of the three "big" software solutions we have, one is nothing but a SQL database that runs well on a virtual computer.

The other two control security hardware and absolutely will not run on a virtual computer. I very rarely set them up on my personal computer along with the hardware. But sometimes I do.

Get a separate drive (not a partition on your C drive) for ALL saved data. Put nothing on your C drive other than the operating system and applications. Every time you save something it should be to that external dive/drives. (I have five externals connected.) Absolutely NO DATA gets saved to the C drive.

Even separate data disks and backups aren't foolproof. You can have a virus long before you notice it and you'll back it up with the rest of your stuff.

Back in the 90s I was using McAfee. That was the first time (as far as I know) that a virus turned off an antivirus program, not just bypassed it.

I hold doors open.

I try not to ram too many people with my shopping cart. Easy, since I rarely shop (that's a man's job at my house).

I've never told anyone I wouldn't sleep with them... never told anyone I would, either. My decisions are rarely pre-ordained.

Window's schmindows. I have a mac.

Did I cover it all? Oh, forgot my vent:

My kids are not cleaning up as they are supposed to whilst I lounge in here.

One needs battering rams to shop in Korean markets. Just as bad as in Chinese shops! No lines or queues for anything, just huge mob scenes surging towards the goods, especially when there is a sale. It can actually be dangerous!

The British rule in Hong Kong created a slight bit of order, as far as groups in shopping situations, but it's still China, and when a sale is on, it's 'no holds barred!'

My latest vent ...

Those stickers they put on produce sold in grocery stores. It can be difficult to peel off leaving gluey residue and a soft mushy spot. Hard-core scrubbing required.

I like to grab an apple for a quick snack but am forced to "prepare" my fruit before eating.
