I love YA fiction, especially of the speculative type. Ender's Game and The Giver come to mind as do all the Harry Potter books. And then there's Twilight...

How dare you mention Enders Game and twilight in the same sentence! Lol
I never considered Enders Game young adult at all though. Its in the sci fi section here. |

For anyone who's seriously interested in YA fiction, I'd recommend Sonya Hartnett, an Australian writer. Her books are hard to put down, but very challenging, right on the borderline between what makes a book adult and young adult.

Idk. I think young adult is a viable genre. I wouldn't consider them "kids books" but I think they deal with age appropriate issues. I think the bridge is getting closer though between adult material and young adult.

I love the first 2 Hunger Games books. The 3rd I just didn't quite like as much.
as far as YA goes I just finished the last book in Vampire Academy. I love all of these books 6 in all. Another series I've been reading is House of Night. Also Werecats by Rachel Vincent. There are 6 in this series all good. I am number Four was another good YA book which is being filmed as a movie that's coming out early next year. I just bought Ender's Game and is next on my list to read after I'm done with another series of books not YA called Eve Duncan by Iris Johansen that is very good. |

A lot of Young Adult lit is more mature and sophisticated than much of the junk lit marketed to adults. Take something like The Golden Compass, vs, say..Confessions of a Shopaholic.

If you liked the VA books (on the 6th one now, love it) you should try her Succubus series and Eugenie Marks series. I like Richelle Mead, she's a pretty awesome writer. Claudia Gray has a decent series, as well as Cassandra Clare in YA books.

Or for that matter, Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy. I've enjoyed that one as an audio book, just wish it was an ebook.
