Does the book show in "I'm Reading" on the kobobooks.com website? If not, then go into your purchased list, click in the box next to the title, and then choose "bookmark" at the top of your list. That should move the book into "I'm Reading" and it will then respond when you update your library.

I have heard that there are occasional locked content issues that are not related to Adobe DRM, but I have not experienced one (yet). I'm assuming you did reauthorize your device after the update/reset. The MR Wiki has instructions for that, if you need them.

Added information expanding on the installation process to the first post of this thread. That post has the most up-to-date information I have available to me.

The issue is not with DRM-protected books (which are now OK), but with the included public domain books; I mentioned "Three Musketeers", but the problem appears to affect all of them. (It seems ironic that while most people here have posted about problems trying to hide the included books, my problem is that I'm trying to read them and can't!)

pejorg: your particular problem is perfectly suited for the database replacement JC Kobo provided. What this will do is replace your existing sqlite Db with a fresh one in which the preloaded books will be in the new "kepub" format. Not only will you be able to read them , but the dictionary will work with them.

No, I did the database replacement - that's what cleared up (to my surprise) the problem with the ADE books, but paradoxically started this problem with the preloaded books. I realize that this doesn't seem to make sense, but this is in fact what happened.

No it doesn't, LOL. PM JCKobo and see if he has any ideas--you will have to give him the whole story. I know you reset your reader, but I did not know that you had removed the existing database etc and replaced them. Jordan posted that yesterday afternoon.

Please note: when you are installing a new database, in 1.8 you will replace 3 things: the entire images directory, kepub directory, and database. this is different than 1.4 which did not have a kepub directory.

That may be the problem, since the instructions just said to follow the instructions for the old version, and therefore I did not replace the kepub directory. I'll try that when I get home tonight.

And BTW, I do GREATLY appreciate all of your help on this!

No problem. When I saw the initial post about this, I thought I asked JCKobo if the file replacement was the same... I guess I didn't. Anyway, I asked this AM.

Sorry if this has been brought up else where but I've managed to miss it... When I was running 1.4 all the book covers that I had embedded in the epubs via Calibre were showing up (both in the menu and in sleep mode), now that I've updated to 1.8 they no longer work.

Any suggestions? Would re-embedding the covers with Calibre work? Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you talking about embedded in drm free ePUBs? Did you replace your image file --one of the steps if you decided to go the new Db route?

Can you also talk to the development team to get embedded fonts working?

Mark, every time I see your user name and avatar I think you are a kobo staff person. They use the same avatar and some of them have kobo in their user names. Don't be surprised if people ask you lots and lots of questions.

Taming, I did a factory reset on my ereader and everything is find.

Thank you

Marc

Yes that's exactly what I meant. I see, I hadn't updated to the new Db, is that something you would recommend?

I saw the thread with the new Db file but I wasn't exactly sure how to install it.

If I understood you correctly, the regular cover.jpg files currently in the drm free epubs will not work properly otherwise?

Thank you so much for the response.
