Yes I definitely noticed that when temperature is low the reader reacts differently. As I was waiting about 2 hours outside reading at about 0°C, the ghosting seemed a bit worse, but the reader was considerably slower and the device responded very slowly, double tapping on a word would often not work, so to get the definition I just tapped 3, 4 or more times until the dictionary appeared. I remember the video on youtube of a guy doing a test of the Kindle 3, he putted it in a sort of oven that could bring either high or low temperatures, and whil the heat didn't to have much effect, low temperatures would also make the device react slower. So I guess that's a characteristic of EInk screens.

No, it's a characteristic of electronics in general and batteries...

Mmmm... I certainly not a pro in electronic, but 0°C is not that cold, and I don't see my other electronic device (mobile, laptop) reacting that way. Batteries drain faster in low temperatures if I'm correct, but again, I don't see what it has to do with the device reacting slower. The fact that I had not mentioned is that the page turn was also slower, I mean the whole process of displaying the new page was slower.

LOL I had a heavy coat and gloves but I have to say, after an hour and a half or so, the cold was so strong I couldn't just sit and read anymore, I had to walk a bit to warm me up.

Zero centigrade is the freezing point of water. Given that the pigment particles in the e-ink cells are suspended in a liquid, I'd imagine that yes they will be negatively influenced by cold weather.

You can do a search and find similar topics about this running all the way back to the first e-ink devices.

Yes my point (post #47) was indeed that eink is particularly sensitive to cold, though I don't deny other components would be affected as well.

i had a kindle 3 for a week before it "leaked" and they declined me a replacement

no worries, im back to my jetBook though so its allll gooooddddd

but the ghosting was an effect i found strange.

its like a weird smell in a room, even though you might get used to it over time, its still there and can become more annoying as time goes on.

i think thats the main issue for avid readers, where you want a clean page, but you can still see the text from the previous one - not my cup of tea.

I can definitely see the previous screen contents underneath the cover art when playing an mp3 album.
