since it's new tech you 'll be most likely questioned anyway (there were already threads on MR about that)
the top to questions are "is that a kindle / an ipad" |

I've never been asked. However, whenever I see someone with a nook, kobo or sony, I almost always remind them about library books.

I am reading a HB right now (ebook won't be out for three months) and it is taking me twice as long to get through it because I can't carry it with me when I go out. I dream of the day when everything will be available for my KOBO. Needing TWO hands to hold my book when reading is really bothersome

I had been buying hardcovers for years of my favorite books, thinking they were more permanent. But I found reading them was awkward because of the weight.
So I switched to paperbacks. And now my iPhone. Looked at the iPad but still heavier and more awkward than a paperback. |

Not only am I reading more because I have my books with me during the day, I'm also getting a lot more reading done in bed. I can lie on my side and read with ease and comfort. Especially when I'm awake in the middle of the night, I can slide the Nook out from under my pillow, flick on the Kandle, and read until sleepiness returns.

I have been wanting to re-read the Harry Potter books but I cannot bring myself to try reading those heavy, hardback books. Heck, the paperbacks would be a work out.

Yeah, the last few Harry Potter books rival suitcases in size. At least they are useful for stacking on chairs to stand on while changing lightbulbs. Other than that use I prefer my ebooks.

I hardly buy hardbacks anymore, but I do for my favourites series. I hadn't read a physical book in forever and then the newest Wheel of Time book came out. Now that was a huge hardcover! It was so uncomfortable to read in bed and I missed my Nook so much. I still read it twice even though it was a pain.

A lot of people love e-readers exactly because no one knows what you're reading. I've heard romance readers really love this -- no longer have to be ashamed of those wonderful covers.

The New York Times just had an article on this. Apparently the Romance Publishers are doing the best job of getting out of print books converted to e-book format and are really pushing for more and more e-book publications.

Never bothers me to have my science fiction and fantasy covers out there, but I can see that an e-reader gives more privacy, except perhaps for comics. |

![]() This reminds me of a phenomenon I observed in my long-ago youth. Sometimes I found myself at quasi-social activities where I had difficulty getting involved in a conversation. I would be bored, so I would pull out my book to read. But immediately, people who weren't interested in talking with me a moment ago would excitedly ask me what I was reading and want to talk about it. That was irritating, so I've always enjoyed it when I've been able to read in a public place without anyone asking me what I was reading. Judging from your experience, I may have to put up with it again when I venture out to read my eReader in public. Oh well. It will be interesting to watch history unfold as we see eReaders take over more and more of the publishing world and thus change public acceptance, experience and behaviour. |

I have a Wilbur Smith book in hardback... It's actually all 3 novels of The Courtneys of Africa - Starting with The Burning Shore and finishing with Rage..
I really wanted to read it again, and I could not buy Wilbur Smith ebooks available to Australia... But now Amazon have them, and I can read them all without using a scaffold for the books. |

No one ever asks me (comments) on my e-reading at all!
I ask folks with non-Kindles if they download library books. |

I have had people ask me if my Nook was an iPad. It is so funny because the Nook doesn't resemble an iPad at all. I explain what a ereader is and some people know, but most don't get it.
