(Wrote this some time back, when I was on a poetry kick, one of my favorites of my own devising, presented here if only for amusement for you.)
"The Ballad of the Glassteel Heart" Ever 'oer the land did wander, a slayer with a heart a-sunder. Seeking beloved whose eyes alight, the burning soul of this lost knight. Shadow long in the field of woe. Seeking ends for his heart-broke, feeling hope and love choke. 'e spied a maiden surpassingly fair, asleep in the glade he wandered there. Shadows soften in the burning glow. The name of Sharawynn rose to his lips, entranced by her beauty and those hips. From gloomy tangle he did emerge, and in her light his soul did purge. Shadows retreat she awakens now. The secrets of their desire lay bare, uncovered to all without a care. A blazing love more glorious then gold, their sacrifices yet untold. Shadows cower away so slow. His flesh a sword, her heart his hoard. Undying adventurers of devotion, lovers enslaved as if by potion. Shadows vanish they speak their vow. |

I'm a poet at heart and like to write the stuff except that I have a very thin skin when it comes to critics, especially the wife. She dreads February 14th. I read every poem here and some very good rhymes jumped out inspiring me to pen this little tribute to Sigil. I suspect I'll be showered with great Karma for this puppy.
Ode to Sigil The book is dead It kills the trees Now we have Sigil Tis the bees Knees. This poem sucks And so do PDFs Let’s bury Adobe I’ve had enough. Now we have ebooks In full colour Like the pictures They make me wonder. But Sigil's pictures Stand askew This could get bad I fooled you. Can people read And vision life Got to go, Here comes the wife. She sees my pen And hates my rhyme I thinks she’s one big Philistine. Namaste, mhikl There’s a slight problem with stanza 2. I couldn’t find anything to rhyme with PDFs. |

I hate PDF
and refuse to endanger my health, or give them any portion of my wealth. It's like smoking and choking, so it's banned from my computer. Seriously: A trip to Nairobi is much more enjoyable than using Adobe. Don |

Other than writing a few lines of poetry required for some English composition classes I only wrote one other poem in my life. I was told to get my affairs in order and prepare for death.
For some unknown reason, I sat down and wrote a poem. I have never written another one since. That was over 22 years ago and I'm still here. ![]() The Coldest Tears the coldest tears the worst of fears I blank my thoughts to ease the pain that future scourge are sure to bring the hidden dreams your life have built are all exposed and washed away in floods of guilt I took the risk no blame be told just sighs to lips that prayers have missed and those that care foretold of death are forced to share the coldest tears |

good Wetdogeared.
Only one poem. There are more from where this came from, my friend. The more one does the easier they become. I find poetry writing (even the awful stuff- or goofy stuff) brings a clarity that is difficult to find in stewing over what can’t be changed- the past & the inevitable- though you are proof that ‘inevitable’ ain’t always what it’s cut out to be. (much better too, than using prose where logic messes everything up.) I understand “blank my thoughts” (survival somethings depends upon it - but eventually we must and do come to terms with it as you did) but “washed away and guilt” can be overcome and does it ever really get washed away. But embracing our losses or our guilt or the things we’ve done in life (as you do in your poem)- just as we embrace our successes - is a key to understanding and learning and therefore moving on. It is so easy to try to ignore our problems but then they eat us up insidiously from the inside. How good writing your verse was for you! The proof is in the fact that you kept it so long. It was transforming for you and is the same for others. We die each second and are reborn again to be reborn again - as Vonnegut says “and so it goes”. Such is life. Go crazy. 22 years is a long time. Another opus. Namste, mhikl |

poem: Christmas, 2010
I hear the holiday songs, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Jose Feliciano, sounds out of the radio, from long ago. Satellites whiz by overhead, Santa can dodge them, so I have been told. I don't miss the lard baked cookies, from my childhood, my doctor would scream, so I eat whole wheat bread, with a bit of frosting on the slices, just for nostalgia's esteem. I got my tree out of the storage closet, leak in the wall, apartment maintenance guy, says he will fix it, the tree and ornaments survived, they are partially up, more on the tree tomorrow. I see hurrying shoppers, driving like a hurricane was chasin' them, they need to slow down. There are folks out there, with nothing for the holidays, I hope those groups who feed them, would do it more days of the year, as I don't know anyone, who can eat just twice a year. No snow in my area, the folks here wouldn't know how to drive in it, so hopefully the skies will stay clear. I miss relatives who died a few years ago, We'll enjoy the holidays, and think of them as we open the presents, and be of good cheer. Happy Holidays to you all, and to all a good night ! [ exit ] John Lennon's song about Christmas was running through my mind when I typed the above. |
