Non-english languages On Sony PRS-505

Hello
Sorry - maybe my question is very easy - but I can't find answer.

I write from Poland. My language (and polish ebooks) has non-english characters. Can I read non-english ebooks with special characters on Sony PRS-505 - in *.txt files on best (or pdf) ?

Sorry for my english

Yes, the Sony Reader certainly supports the accented characters used in Polish.

I'm afraid you're wrong, Harry. The stock fonts on the Reader support Western diacritics and some of the Polish ones, but definitely not all of them.
Here's a little sample.

Top two lines are in Arial, bottom two are in Swiss721 BT.

If you embed fonts in either the PDF or LRF files, you can.

My apologies - I stand corrected. It certainly has the accents required to support western European languages.

Yes, guys, does somebody know something about that? Forget pdf files. Let's talk about the lrf. Is it possible and how?
Come on igorsk, I know you know how to do it. I'm talking about Cyrillic characters and fonts.
Let's say I don't want to flash my 505, I just want to read cyrylic texts. When you format them in BD or Libris and view'em IN these programs - everything is OK. But when you transfer them in the reader - the things don't work the same way.
So I guess I/We need special cyrilic font /like Tmscyr or else/. Is it possible to insert cyrilic font in 505? OR simply just how can you read cyrilic /or else/ book in lrf /or rtf/txt/ format on your 505?

Jeeves, what you can try to do is embed a font that has the characters you want and see if that works. You can try it with both Book Designer and Libprs500's converters.

I do not know about 505, but I have been using embedded Polish fonts on 500 without any problems (I do not like the default ones too much).

You just have to add the fonts in the "Make eBooks/Sony Reader/styles/external fonts, then define your styles with them.

The embedded fonts supposedly slow down the page turns, but I do not see it as a big problem. The nicer fonts definitely make up for that.

By the way, it is hard to believe that in the 21st century they have designed a device without Unicode support. This is a real showstopper in multilanguage texts - for example in a Polish book with Spanish or French quotes the characters are badly messed up...

I just want to correct this statement. In fact, the Sony Reader does have Unicode support, it just doesn't have full Unicode fonts. If you have a 500, you can install the "Cyrillic" fonts, and they do have the full Eastern European sets in them, I believe (not positive, but almost).

Whether you wish to bother with installing updates to your device for native fonts support, or you prefer to read books with embedded fonts (which usually page much slower) is totally up to you, of course.

You can convert it to PDF then change to image-lrf by using "pdflrf"
It support every languages in the world
-
Before 505's first firmware upgrade, maybe it's the best way for other languages.

Thanks xxueyi for the hint with pdf -> lrf converter, I downloaded it and I will try it, but it is not ultimate solution Firstly one conversion more ( most of books I have in txt/rtf/doc), secondly I really doubt that that quality will be as good as txt -> lrf conversion. I only want lrf because of quality not because I prefer three letters "lrf" above "pdf" ;-) But I will see.
Anyway I want direct solution not workaround at the end.
Jabberwock, I've tried already to play with styles ("Make eBooks/Sony Reader/styles/external fonts), and I've tried once again a moment ago, still nothing. I embedded Arial, Arial CE, Times New Roman, Times New Roman CE etc. Which font is correct for polish users? If none from default set, how to load a new correct one (maybe a link to them)? I have a possibility only to chose between a few fonts inside Book Designer. In Book Designer also is an option Configuration/Fonts but it has no impact on possible choices in conversion...

Oops... I've forgotten to add: you have to set the correct language (i.e. Polish) in the Book Designer - Configuration\Settings\Book language.

I did it at the beggining.
Also somebody wrote somewhere that book encoding (File/book encoding) should be in Unicode (UTF-8). I've also changed it in a desperation. Doesn't work also.
