I didn't need a credit card, but did have download the Adobe Digital Editions.

I looked at Apprentice Alf-and honestly I couldn't understand a word of it!

I didn't even know where to look to find this plug-in or how to install it.

If this is too wrong to be discussing here, maybe someone could PM with the the idiot's guide to plug-ins!

Thanks

See Adobe ADEPT DRM for EPUB circumvented, but note that tool_2.3 is now the latest version. The trick is to find the tools_2.3 bundle (zip file) and read its plugin READMEs.

A possible search of Apprentice Alf's site using "2.3" without the quotes might help narrow things down. It is still not absolutely transparent but that zip file contains folders and check one for PLUGINS.

Ok, now I'm getting somewhere!

Have downloaded the mysterious tools zip folder.

Have opened the Calibre plug-ins folder-there are 4 more zipped folders in there plus 4 'readme' folders.

...um, now what!!

Thanks

Read the ReadMes. They'll tell you everything you need to know in a fairly straightforward manner.

(Or so it seems to me. I never bother with Calibre for stripping and do it directly via the actual scripts/the very handy droplet now available for Mac users because I have no patience.

But the instructions seem easy enough to follow. Best of luck!)

Thnaks for your patience everyone. I think I might just forget it-as I am sure the system is designed!

I don't get which of the 4 readme files I need to follow. So I tried them all one by one. Each time I tried to add a plugin, Calibre said the plugins weren't valid.

Are you on the plugin page? See my screenshots at Adobe ADEPT DRM for EPUB circumvented. The one you want is Ineptepub, which is for Adobe ePubs.

Click on the browse button to the right and point it to the 'zip' file. Then click add.

To check if the plugin has been added, you can click the plus next to 'file type plugins'.

Oh finally, it's in!!

Yay!

OK, let the idot's guide continue though...now what do I do?

I have my book sitting in the Adobe Digital Editions folder, if I get Calibre to find it the book is still coming up as an exe file.

When you download the book, it should give you the option to open in Adobe Digital Editions. This will convert it to epub.
