I thought about them when they first came out, but they seem too limiting. what if there is a delay in shipment of the pods? what if that company goes out of business? I like to keep it simple with my french press. hot water, and I am good to go!

I was put off last time I looked by being stuck with the pods. (I had a similar issue with Kindle and Amazon)
It looks like you can dodgily recycle the pods. I have a plunger and a stovetop espresso, but am too lazy to make coffee with these and I am hopeless at measuring. I saw this as a lazy way to get a good cup. *sigh* |

The Keurig K-cup is not exactly a pod system, but they do sell their own refillable filter. It seems lots of companies make K-cups with a variety of coffees. I haven't looked at these until just now.
I've been looking at the semi-automatic espresso machines because my daughter wants one, so I wanted to know what's so special about espresso makers. Some of these take "ESE espresso pods", which are different from the other 'pods'. For myself, I've been using a Melita-style cone with a Black&Decker Brew-'n-Go; pretty quick, not much mess using paper filters, and decent enough, if not espresso ![]() Last edited by pholy; 12-11-2010 at 09:16 PM. I've been using a Keurig machine for a couple of years now -- it uses single use little cups called k-cups, each of which makes one cup of coffee. Lots of different flavors and strengths, and I usually order in large quantity from Amazon. Local stores sell the k-cups, too, and if I've forgotten to order from Amazon I'll get them there, but that's a little more expensive. I've just bought a new keurig machine to give my mother for Christmas, as a matter of fact.
I used a pod machine for a couple of years before that. That machine wore out eventually, but it made good coffee, and the pods are recycleable if I'm not mistaken. Unfortunately k-cups are not, although they're working on it. |

![]() I really want a Rancilio Silvia (we had a Rancilio when we had a cafe), but it is very expensive, and I am lazy in my old age. Plus I can't have too much coffee or it will be back to the migraine days (when we had the cafe I lived on coffee and 'V') *sigh* bloke always poo poohs these things because he is just as happy with nescafe gold and thinks everything is too much trouble unless we go to 'Vast' for a bought one. |

I have a Nespresso machine since few years and we are extremely happy with the last one we got. The design is pleasing and the operating it easy and faultless. No problems for cleaning and for maintenance. You can set how long is long and how short is short, which is neat.
![]() I have no idea if they sell it in OZ. I get both small sized coffees and regular cups. We use just two types both of grade 9 and 7 (in intensity), regular (Arpeggio) and deca (Intenso) Both in the cocoa aromatic domain. I just found out this, while fixing up details for the post. From time to time we try some specials. Now we got some pods of Columbian coffee. The coffee they sell is expensive, but is really very, but very good. Last edited by beppe; 12-12-2010 at 09:23 AM. |
