And smokers don't realize that substance also coats their lungs. But when they object and say, that there's also bad substances in the very city air, of the air near industrial complexes; well, that's a fact. And maybe those substances can be even more harmfull in the long run.
But with smoking at least, one has the choice. The environment is more difficult to control, apart from moving to a healthier place.

If the smoking doesn't kill them, perhaps the exposure might ...

Ages ago, when I did some work on air pollution, and when smoking was not yet an issue, I came out on a bit of information about how just *living* in Milano was equivalent to smoke 3 packs a day. I smoked just one and had a house in the mountains so that was it.

My father arrived to 89 smoking a 30/day. My little sister was so good to set him up in the last month of his life when he had to go to the hospital, in a place where they let him do what he wanted. So everyday I went to visit him, put him in a wheel chair and took him somewhere to smoke together and have fun. At least in this last days he forgot all my divorces and that I was a bad son, bad husband, bad father, bad citizen, bad Christian, (he had nothing to say about my profession, he was in Business Adm, like his older brother, I was in engineering like his other 2 younger brothers, and we all hold the other gang in contempt, this still goes on to day), and all that pile of s**t that his rigorous Catholic upbringing had loaded his soul with, so that he plainly enjoyed being with me and having a good time drawing a few puffs.

I think that smokers should be left in peace and made comfortable, like everybody else.

It's what I see outside our local hospital that is disturbing.

To one side, or both, of entrance ways: smokers in their bedclothes, sat in wheelchairs and hooked up to drips.

Visualize using your turn signals.

I can't tell you how many near misses we had today just because the driver in front of us didn't bother to put on his/her turn signals. We were out to catch the last of the fall colors in the mountains too, just like everyone else. OK... there is a possibility that I may have been going a little faster than I should have. (but only Warp 6, NEVER Warp 9!) But if those SOBs used their turn signals before they turned, things would have been a lot smoother for everyone, including the people they cut off in the oncoming traffic lane!

Turn signals actually serve a purpose. They are not just decorative. Being so vulnerable I tend to put my signals on early, then augment them with hand signals too. I really want people behind me to know what I'm planning well in advance so they can take appropriate actions. Save a biker today; use your turn signals.

Stitchawl
I've always found that turn signals only give away your intentions.

Yes. I think that I understand that you are disturbed but the absurdity of it, in the hospital to get better but out to take a break to get worst.

One might think that is the act of living that kills us.

When I was in grad school, I had a part-time job at a local "assisted living health center" [aka nursing home] - I spent most of my time wheeling octogenarians out in wheel chairs onto the porch to smoke. The nursing aids used to fight to do this - since they could sneak smokes as well.

My best friend's mum died in her 50's due to smoking. She was given warning after warning that she needed to give up or it would kill her - but nothing could ever convince her to stop smoking.

Very very sad. My friend was only in her 20's when her Mum died and it is so sad that she had a choice - every one was so desperate to help her to stop. But you cannot help people who do not want to be helped. She was a lovely woman too, maybe just short on willpower and we all miss her

The Karma giver is a popup -- maybe javascript and the browser in the droid doesn't fully support everything...

Hmm, just karma'd you but I couldn't add a message - that seems to be the issue...

Okay, y'all are making me curious. I'm going to get on my Ally and see if I can give karma -- I thought I had before, but maybe not. Be right back.

Aha- that explains it! I always give a message. Thanks for trying it out on me!

(do you have some code written in that brings you to any messagecontaining the word "droid?" You may have missed me trying to call vr a winner, but swype kept calling him a weiner! I spy thread!)

Did you get it, k and g? You have to long-press the karma word, then it asks if you want to open in a new window. Then you can put in the note and "add to reputation." Now your Droid is complete! Well, except the weiner thing...
