Your ability to find books depends of what you like and what you chose. For instance: I used to have a Nook but B&N does not have a good collection of computer books or programming so in real world, being able to read an epub book means nothing to me, because I can't read or buy what I need and like. On the other hand, Amazon is selling all those computer books that I can't find at B&N. So, I sold my Nook and bought a Kindle, actually two: Kindle DXG and Kindle 3. I am not interested on lending epub from any public library. I don't need it, don't want it, and like me there are lot of more people with same opinion. That does not mean is not yours or the same for those who like or really lend from public libraries, but again it is more a subjective thing than something related with the azw or epub format itself. |

I guess I don't know but does the additional choice of shops with epub actually provide additional selections between themselves or provide real price competition? Or is this one of those idealist arguments where the choices really don't exist? As I said in another post, my partner does not believe in spending money on books (other that at library book sales where they are pennies on the dollar) and so for her the library is her route to books/reading. Epub might make some sense but not in the choice of shops. |

I looked in the Kindle section because there was another thread about removing DRM, which is of interest to me because, yes, occasionally there's a book at Amazon that I might want to buy. And this thread about formats seemed to be related, so I started reading it. That makes me a troll? |

The additional choice of shops certainly makes a difference to me as far as non-Agency books go, because I can shop around for a better price. I personally have been extremely happy buying from Kobobooks, because of their many coupon offers, which, even in the short time I've been buying e-books, has saved me a decent amount of money. And as you say, the other great option I have is library books, which are a great benefit. |

If you are in the US then there really is no "shopping around" because of the Agency 5 price fixing agreement. The publisher sets the price and the agent, used to be the retailer, cannot sell for less than that price. There are still publishers that don't set the price and those can be discounted by the retailer.
I love my Kindle not just because of the Kindle store but because the only time I've had to connect it to my PC was when I loaded the screensaver hack. I can send all my books and periodical content wirelessly at no additional cost. To me that's more important than ePub. If I want it's trivial to remove DRM and convert. If I had a hankering to read the Mercola books, which I don't because I don't agree with him, then I would purchase, strip, and convert. Same with foreign language books. I will not be stopped by DRM from reading what I want. Heck, on my Pocketbook IQ I *can* read any format, with or without DRM. The only downside is that it's an LCD screen. |

Perhaps you are related, or pushing his writings for some other reason? If a doctor has time for publishing so many books, perhaps his patients aren't getting the time they need. |
