Does Kindle accept Mobi book format purchased from other stores? - Page 3

Well, plenty of e-book store ?
What stores sell drm free mobi ? Bean is about the only one I can name.
Then add to this a few independant books, public domain. Not that much.

And where are the books from the mainstream pubishers? Nowhere but amazon.

The main problem isn't really the kindle being locked to kindle store. You can find most of what you want, if you don't mind english.
It's the kindle books being locked to kindle. If you want to change and use someting else, you're out of luck. Mobi DRM is pretty bad there.... Lesser evil being adept drm.
Though in an ideal world, one format, no drm. No more headeaches.

For a Kindle owner ,the main problem is the kindle being locked to kindle store indeed.
Since this topic is about Kindle gadget, we have to empathize that Kindle user cannot find thousands of titles for his Kindle reader without removing thousands of DRM protection ILLEGALLY.
Removing DRM is not sure 100% .

Almost all important , valuables, rare or scientific ebooks are DRM protected.

Don't all these sites also offer epubs and pdfs that are readable on NON-Kindle devices? Plus the NON-Kindle user can go to BN, Borders, Kobo, and the good old public library AS WELL?

I'm glad that Kindle users are happy with their Kindles, I really am, but I don't understand why they object so strenuously to the idea that they're "locked in." You're a lot more locked in than I am with my device that reads epubs. I can get books anywhere EXCEPT Amazon (without tinkering). You can't get books from the other mainstream booksellers (without tinkering).

Again, if you're happy with Amazon, fine. But the other "choices" you have to get books outside of Amazon are hardly compelling.

Just out of curiosity, what books are you refering to ?

Guess it's all about what you want to read. To some peaple, the lock in is not a problem, because amazon will provide them with the books they care about. Others will be kind of annoyed.

next month i would read about something else quiet different.

The objection, in this thread, is more specifically to blanket statements that the Kindle "can only read ebooks from Amazon", and that the Kindle "can't read ebooks from other online bookstores".

I'm glad that non-Kindle owners are so happy with their e-readers, but I don't understand why they are trolling the Kindle forum...

Anyway, personally, I've bought more books for my Kindle from Baen and Fictionwise than Amazon itself. Is it Amazon's fault that other bookstores have chosen to use Adobe DRM?

If Amazon really wanted to lock people in, they could have made the Kindle only read files from Amazon, period.
