If the cover from the 900 is anything to go by, the book-closure cases from Sony should be very good at protecting the reader. I assume the Sony "premium" covers for the 650 offers the same sort of protection as that of the 900, not least because it has magnets to keep it closed.

I could be very wrong, of course.

No idea what kind of cover 900 has, but Sony's cover(s) for 650 (and 350) don't have locking mechanism, they leave 3 sides exposed and there is no specific hardening on the front to protect the screen.

They are nice covers but imho not suitable for constant carrying in a backbag on daily basis. I have to use elastic around it to ensure that it doesn't open in the bag while moving around.

I really wouldn't have bought another cover if I seriously considered the Sony cover I currently have to be sufficient.

Three sides of the "inbuilt" cover for the 900 is unprotected too.It is integral, though, and the front of the cover is stiff and closes with magnets.

Iintend to carry it (the 650) around with me in a bag constantly too, but until my "tuff-luv" arrives, I use rubberbands and a thin piece of plywood cut to size. I'm sure that if I continue to use the plywood, it will scuff the buttons and the edges where the reader touches the plywood. Unfortunately, it appears that it will take a while, as Amazon.de quotes an estimated arrival time of December 17th - January 5th.

Why don't you cancel it and order from i-nique? You get 15% discount and postage to Europe is £3.99 (Standard Airmail - or £7.99 for insured)? You can always give them a call to check approximate delivery time as well: +441932333580 (they do have contact form on site as well).

On the other hand, I may have been lucky, but usually I've got my Amazon orders way before their estimated delivery times.

All in all I'm very pleased with it. I prefer the side zipper to the top zipper, feels easier to get to the device. And I've always preferred the non-attached case since I tend to read in places where I just want to hold the device alone.

If you're looking for a case it might be a good option. It's listed on my receipt as SKU# 9878834 and the item is not on their website (it's a larger version of the same on their website).

Does it fit the 650 if the 650 is in a cover (with and without the light)? If not, then it's useless because when you then take the 650 out to use, it's naked and more vulnerable to damage.

m-edge is a useless waste of space. They say there is not enough interest in products for the new Sony line. Yet they advertised products for the nook color before the nook color was available for sale and we know there could not have been "enough" interest at that time in m-edge products. So really, I think m-edge has an issue with Sony and don't feel bad lying to customers telling them there is not enough interest. That wasn't the way with the iPad, or the K3 or the nook or the nook color. I'm betting customers with those devices didn't have to express interest.

Has anyone tried one of the Cover-up cases for the 650? Saw one on an auction site, but haven't heard about the quality.

JS, that Wenger case should fit the non-lit case but not the case-with-light. I still slip my 650 in there as additional protection in my truck's glovebox but it does leave one edge of the lit case sticking out a half-inch or so.

Case is exactly what I hoped it to be, cover the reader much better than the lighted Sony cover and therefore is way better suited for daily commuting.

Papi, I'm very very sorry! I saw your post and meant to go measure it... and then forgot. I've only just remembered now.

Case with 650 in it is 23mm thick. However it's thicker at the point where the stand is, and approx 27mm thick there.

Thanks for the information Halk !
It's a bit thicker than I thought...If that's not too annoying, could you also give me length and width ?

The Kobo reader slip cases also work for the 650's. They're a tad bit too long, but since it's a sleeve case, that really isn't an issue. The real issue is the embroidered Kobo logo on the cover... but other than that, it's a good fit.

The SonyStyle.com store is currently having a 25% off sale for all of its current reader cases. They have the red 650 cover (no light), as well as the lighted, unlighted, and zipper cases for the 950, and the pink and blue lighted and unlighted 350 covers. This sale is listed as going until the 15th.

For the rest of today (not sure if it's until a a particular time or time zone) they're having free shipping for delivery by the end of the 24th.
