Good night, all of you going (gone?) to bed! Good morning, those of you getting (already?) up!

Drinking honey lemon rooibos in my Bodum cup. Shel, Bodum makes these mugs and cups, and I guess glasses, from double walled glass so even though the beverage inside is plenty hot you can hold it in your hand with no discomfort. I've only had it a few weeks but it has fast become my favorite cup. This one has no handle, which I think I actually prefer since the cup doesn't burn my hands.

How could it burn your hands if you wear gloves when drinking from it?

Which leads me to the next question;
How hot do we drink our teas and coffees?

I'm a wuss. In Japan, it's called having 'a cat's mouth.' I can't drink very hot stuff. I watch these guys in the stand-up noodle shops slurping down boiling hot noodles and soup and I cringe. Even with my tea I need to let it cool down a bit before drinking. If I'm going to try drinking it right after steeping I have to add one small ice cube just to drop the temperature a bit. I need it be be about 80°-85° before I can even begin to enjoy it!

This insulated cups would be the death of me. I'd never be able to drink my tea! It would stay too hot. So, how about you? Do you drink boiling water? Or are you like me, and let it cool down a bit?

I like my drinks hot! Because of that, though, I hate drinking them from any kind of travel cup that just has one little opening to drink through. I can't sip correctly from those without burning my mouth. I can sip just fine from an open cup, though!

I have to let my tea cool down for 10-15 minutes after it's done steeping. If it's too hot I can barely keep it in my mouth long enough to swallow it. I usually can't taste anything for a while after subjecting myself to liquid that's too hot, which defeats the purpose of drinking the tea!

That 10-15 minutes is in my regular tall skinny mugs. Smaller mugs and wider-mouthed mugs cool down faster.

Ah, thank you, Betty. Well, I wussed out and bought Lipton Cranberry Pomegranate Green teabags. Mainly because I didn't have much time, as I was looking at the tea selection on break, and because I know I like green tea, (well, at least I know I like it when it comes in the bottles, cold...), and I like both Pomegranate and Cranberry flavors. We have Bigelow and CS teas, too, but as I said, I was very limited on time, and those flavors appealed to me the most so I grabbed. We'll see how it goes with it in the morning. It's definitely cold enough to have some tonight, but we got McD's for dinner, and so I have a Coke sitting here I'm drinking now, and after I finish that I'm probably going to bed with a book.

Sun's up, Yorkshire tea in the cup, bowl of rice and miso soup next to me, getting ready to face the new day. YIPPEE!!

My wife has a lecture to attend in downtown Osaka this afternoon so we'll go in together, have lunch at 'The Outback' restaurant, then I'll head off in search of some Fortnum & Mason 'Royal Blend' and 'English Breakfast' teas. I almost remember where I found them the last time. I hope I'm correct. F&M used to have a stall inside one of the larger department stores but that closed down some years ago and I couldn't find any of their goods for quite some time. I'm happy to see it's come back to town!

Several people now have agreed that Liptons tea works well for ice tea (I think so too) but is horrible for hot tea. I wonder why that works this way?
I also like to use Lipton's powdered ice tea, unsweetened, which is really, for me, doing a 180 regarding tea!

I remember when Celestial Seasonings ONLY sold 'Red Zinger' and it was the only drink socially acceptable in our commune! Today it holds the market share world-wide for herbal teas. They must be doing something right!

why do I find it extremely troubling that there is an Outback in Osaka?

ha! I didn't know there was a term for it! I always wondered if I had burned my tongue badly when I was little and didn't remember it. I am a total wuss about really hot liquids!

That's the way I felt one day, after traveling by very rural bus into central Malaysia, then taking a powered canoe seven hours up river into the Tamon Negara rain forest, then taking a smaller canoe another three hours to a small river settlement. Just a handful of bamboo huts and one small store selling kerosene, rice, rope, machetes, etc, and finding Kit-Kat bars for sale! It hit me worse than seeing a 7-Eleven in Bangkok!

'Cat's Mouth' is the general Asian term for it. As Fledchen says, I too have to wait 10-15 minutes for my tea to cool before I can drink it. But I can't deal with pain on any level. I don't have a 'pain threshold.' I start at 'discomfort index.'

Black coffee. I have to do a little shopping this morning, and although it's actually birthday shopping I'll have to brave the Christmas crowds. I tried to do it yesterday afternoon but the shopping traffic got the best of me and I gave it up. One more time, with feeling!

Having a nice glass of Bombay Sapphire on the rocks before going to bed. And Betty, my birthday isn't for another week, so you have plenty of time.

I found the right store today... They had plenty of Fortunm & Mason's Earl Grey and Darjeeling (neither of which work for me) but not a single tin of their English Breakfast tea or Royal Blend! Bummer.

Not to come home empty handed I picked up some more East India Company Royal Breakfast, which is superb, and a trial run at Ahmad's Assam. I had tried Ahmad's English Breakfast tea before but found it mediocre. Let's hope their Assam is better.

Empty cup. desertblues and Stitchawl, have either of you read The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet? I liked it a lot, and it discusses that whole early medical book thing shown in the video db put in corrupt-a-thread.
