There's a "Which one should I buy?" thread, where you might find more help, Jon. However, between and K1 and the K2, the most obvious difference to me is that the K1 still has the expansion slot, where the K2 and up don't. So I guess it depends on how many books you want to be able to store.

Unless you need the expansion card slot (as Shel mentioned) I would recommend the Kindle 2 over the 1. It is much sleeker and easier to use. You don't press buttons accidentally while holding it. And it runs faster than the 1.

A Kindle 3 is said to run faster yet, but I haven't seen one. And I'm not sure I would like the buttons as much as my Kindle 2.

I own both the model 1 and the model 2 (two of those).
