![]() I don't know about the new Sony readers so I don't know how different they are in size. I've been to some of the stores that are supposed to carry them and all I see are the old units that everybody is trying to get rid of with only, what I consider, a small discount. Kind of an anti-rant. When the Kindle was only available from Amazon I thought that it looked ugly. Now that I've seen it a few times in the stores I like it a lot. I still prefer a touch screen, but the low price and better screen has me recommending it to others. But with the caveat that borrowing ebooks from most librearys may be a problem. Rant - It's kind of funny (because I don't own a Kindle) but my blood pressure soars every time I read that kindle owners can only get books from Amazon. |

Just returned from grocery shopping. The cost of food rises faster than I can budget.

If the books *are* protected by DRM, and are *not* sourced from Amazon, you must strip the DRM to read them on the Kindle. The purpose of the DRM applied by Amazon is to lock you into them as the vendor, so you may only *purchase* ebooks from Amazon. Amazon offers selection and pricing sufficiently good that this is not seen as an imposition by Kindle users. ______ Dennis |

Just got back from Christmas shopping (who would have thought that trying to find Crayola Model Magic Presto Dots would be so difficult
![]() I definitely want a cover not a bag - that's what my purse is for! I have used M-Edge's executive covers ever since I purchased my first Sony and have highly recommended them. They have protected my reader on a few occasions when I've tried to carry too many things and ended up dropping my reader, so I really like them for the added protection. I know Sony's aren't the number one reader on the market, but I'm sure they have significant enough sales to warrant M-Edge continuing the product line. As for the Kindle, I've recommended it to several people who are a little less technologically savvy. For someone like my dad who really isn't all that easy with computers (although he thinks he is ![]() ![]() |

And for the newer "blockbuster" or "Big Name Author" DRM books, Amazon is more than adequate. But with my reader I can just wait for those to become available in the library, just as I did (most of the time) when I read on paper. If you want the hottest book, there will be a higher price to pay. I don't blame Amazon for that. |

There's a thread elsewhere on Amazon and B&N offering converted public domain volumes from PG for sale. The sellers have simply repackaged in Kindle or ePub format and uploaded. Lots of folks are incensed. I'm not. Sure, you can get the source text free from PG, but if you happen to be browsing via your Kindle or nook, and see a PD text you've been meaning to read, you might find it worth it to spend a buck or tow to just download and start reading. The value you are paying for is the ease of access. Quote:
