what are they going to sell them for twenty-five-bucks? 18k/day for the US only? Or are they simply running the production line for a day and a half? I call BS on that.

An advantage of high production per day, and 747 shipping, is that they can probably ramp down production fairly fast. If they don't sell them all for the holidays, they can sell easily them next year. However, I think they probably will sell most (and perhaps all) of them. This is the first year that the US ebook reading device market is in full flow at Christmas, and it did ok in other years despite shortages. Half a million high-end reading devices in the Christmas season isn't a stretch at all. There are many lower price alternatives, but the price isn't that high and it does deliver color. Color might not be a big deal for most reading, but it is certainly a great point of sale feature. Last edited by wallcraft; 12-08-2010 at 11:51 PM. |

One more point: The Nook Color appears to be one of the hottest topics of discussion at many of the Android tablet forums. It seems like a lot of folks are buying the thing just to root it.

Been done, Kindle app runs on the rooted nookcolor without any problem. But not that many people appear to that keen on installing it.

The more direct competition is the Galaxy Tab, which apparently sold 1 million units in the US in the last 2 months. Also, due to major screwing the pooch with Nook availability last year -- and the need to have multiple units sitting in thousands of stores, rather than sitting in warehouses -- B&N needs to far outpace the expected demand. This is Riggio trying to assure people there won't be shortages this year. As such, if you're going to measure its success, you have to wait and see how many actually sell as opposed to how many B&N ordered.

actually it's supposed to be more like 7-8 hours... so you're going to charge it overnight on a daily basis... and you must be prepared that the battery life will decrease in time...

and on top of that you have to stock up and meet the current demands of multiple avenues you are sellilng your product. It's no longer just have BN online and BN stores, you now have Best Buy and Walmart stores to supply now as well. Heck just all the Walmart's alone you will need close 18,000 a day. This product seems to have a very high demand this Holiday Season.

I was reading a PC World article that was basically saying the buying potential of the Android hackers could be huge.
