There is enough free reading available legally without most libraries' very limited selection of eBooks anyway. Besides, anyone with an IQ over 70 can use Calibre to make this happen if it's that important to them. And if you must use a library and will not use Calibre, then DON'T BUY A KINDLE!

Another gripe is "Amazon spies on people". Yes, Amazon tracks your purchases just like any other retailer when you have an online account with them. SOOOOO?? They make recommendations based on what you have bought and looked at in the past. SOOOO??? You don't have to buy it!!!
As far as Amazon reading your personal Kindle documents ....

And even if they did, do you really care? The only reasons I can think of that people get so worked up about this is if they have child porn or terrorist documents on their Kindle.

Another big one "Amazon has geo-restrictions". Yeah, so does everyone else. It's not up to the retailer.

I haven't seen this hater mentality towards any other retailers. Nobody puts up a post and then throws in a derogatory comment about B&N, Borders, or any other eReader.

Bottom line - If you are an Amazon hater then, by all means, do NOT buy a Kindle. Buy the eReader of your choice and MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

I have noticed that. It seems that being an outspoken defender of Kindle/Amazon puts a bullseye on you. I am honestly confused because fans of other readers/retailers don't get the same treatment.

Maybe I'm not hanging out in the right (wrong?) places but I really don't see the rabid anti-kindle posts. I have both a K2 and a Sony 505 and a DroidX (and have had a Sony 650 and Aztec Pocket Pro) -- each gets used at various times.

I've been an Amazon customer forever and love their service and pricing for the most part. I was (and am) angry that they caved on the Agent Pricing thing, but I just don't buy the higher priced books and complain to the publisher when I see them.

for some reason, people love to hate on a few businesses; Starbucks, Microsoft, Amazon/Kindle. they refuse to see anything good about them. try telling them that Starbucks is using fair trade coffee and working with the coffee growers to make their land more sustainable, quit destroying the forests, etc. do they want to hear it? nope, the companies are successful so they must be the debil!

I went off on someone who pulled the 1984 fiasco on a new person who was asking about Kindles. the; "I've heard that Amazon will look at your content and pull a book..." we were trying to reassure that person that it was an anomaly, Amazon stepped in it big time, it'll never happen again, yada yada. since then I have been getting my ass kicked across the kindle, general and P&R forums

Nice rant. If it's any consolation, of all the readers I've owned, Kindle's my favorite. It's everything I've ever wanted in a reader. If it could do word processing like my iPad without adding to the weight (iPad's too heavy for a reader, IMO), it would be the perfect all-around portable reading/writing device as well.

Well, I don't really like the Kindle. It started with no support for Cyrillic characters and continued with the lack of support for fb2 files.
The first problem should be over now and the second I could sidestep by Calibre or something else, but the feeling still lingers somewhere, that Amazon doesn't really want to sell me their reader.
I also hope I haven't spread the bitterness too much in other forums, I actually avoid the Kindle one.
And to be perfectly honest, whit this price and the new display, if something was to happen to my reader I would probably buy a Kindle, just like I left over $100 yesterday while shopping at Amazon

Edit: I forgot the most important part - very good rant, wvcherrybomb!!

No, they're "oxygen masks" (I got them under the wing from a QANTAS supply clerk). I never specified what's in the canisters they're attached to.

I've always thought it would be cool to have a party in a sealed house and during the party surreptitiously replace the normal room air with a helium/oxygen mix. Just as everyone was getting glassy-eyed, they'd start sounding like the Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz.

Better yet, let everyone in on the gag except for one person, and have everyone act as if they're all speaking normally.

I want to preface this vent by saying that I have nothing against the Kindle or the nook. I think they are a fine products. I just wish venders of accessories didn't think they were the ONLY digital reader products!!

M-Edge has always carried covers and accessories for the Sony Reader line but have not added the newest generation (350 and 650) to their product line. They are waiting for customer interest.

I've posted a link in the Sony Reader forum for people to contact M-Edge to indicate an interest and thought maybe my friends here in the llounge would do the same - even if you don't have a Sony. It would only take a couple of minutes of your time and I would GREATLY appreciate it!
